Final Boss WILL... NOT... DIE

Final boss in a battleship, name is Hoborak Moon.

I've killed everything else, this guy WILL... NOT... DIE. I expended 5000 cruise missiles on him (nova) but he still won't die. I'm maxed out on ballistic control units, target painters, missile computers, whatever. Have 2 rigs, one is for increasing missile damage, the other is for increasing rate of fire. STILL WON'T DIE. i thought he might be getting reps from some of the support frigs or cruisers so I killed everything else. He's the only thing left. But he STILL WON'T DIE.

Anyone with any experience with this mission?

Did you read all the comments in that thread? Lots of good advice and ideas. I find the comments usually have more to offer than the write-up itself.

Also, as your missiles are hitting Moon, take note what the floaty text is showing for how much damage you are doing. If the #s are very low, you're still having issues with damage application.

I remember that guy. He was a nightmare for my cruise missile fleet-phoon when I had pretty low missile skills. I usually ended up kiting him on the edge of his orbit range, forcing him to keep changing direction to maximize missile damage application.

Nowadays I just use a machariel and kill him in 15 seconds or so Pirate

Ungroup your missiles. It's been a million years, but I think Moon's defender missiles will kill multiple cruise missiles in a group. Plus Moon has a high shield boost chance/rate.

Old Data for Moon: missileDamageMultiplier = 2.55

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

With my Golem and Navy Raven never had any problems with him, or any other npc is missions for that matter.
What ship are you flying?
How are your skills?
Post your actual fit please so we can see what you are working with.

Some general thoughts.
Rigging for application and damage is usually better than rigging for damage and fire rate. No this will not show up in the obvious stats in a fit tool / window because they do not take application of damage into account only raw damage.

Using T-2 launchers and ammo may be beneficial as well if you are not using them now. If yo cannot use the T-2 then use the Arbalest launchers and faction ammo.

Defender missiles apply to the individual missiles in your volley not to the volley as a single common group so ungrouping your launchers will not make any difference here.

Finally made it past this guy. First, I upgraded to Caldari Navy missiles. Finally, instead of shooting at him from 150km away, I orbited him at 500m. I have no idea if that helped or not, but I'd heard that shooting at him from close range would help defend against his defender missiles.

Anyway, he went down pretty quick with those two changes.
