So I have returned and saw the skill extractor...

Once upon the time when... err I started playing. Mining was a necessity after losing my first proper frigate. For that reason, I skilled mining up to level 2.
And now for a very, very long time I want to get rid of that skill. Would those skill extractors be a possible way to cleanse my char sheet ?
I googled a bit and read that full 5 million skill points would have to be extracted, otherwise one can't complete the extraction process. Is that true ? Or can I extract just this one skill, and then pause the process and throw the extractor away ?

You're getting a little confused.

A skill extractor cannot be used if it would drop you below 5 million skill points, but the extractor only removes 500,000 skill points. And that is exactly 500k, no more, no less.

After extraction there is nothing to stop you re-injecting those skill points and putting them somewhere more useful. I adjusted moved around about 4 million skill points earlier this year, for example.

Edit: Extraction does not make the skill disappear, by the way. It just sets you to zero in that skill. So you will still have the mining skill showing on your character sheet, but without any skill points in it. Just as if you injected the skill but never trained it.

Thank you for your reply. So only 500k. But I need to fill the extractor completely to complete the process ? Say 15k for mining 2 and then the remaining 485k from other skills ?

You do.

(and wrt reinjecting it, there's diminishing returns when you're above 5 million SP. when you get up to 80+ million, you're looking at 50k per injector)

Yup once you start you have to fill up the entire extractor.

I think you had a typo. 80+ million returns 150k per injector.

Reinjecting isn't an option then. Guess I will just take a bit away from a capital skill and sell the skill injector. Enough cash for a few frigs and cruisers to get back into the game.
