On December 10, 2016 a fully armed and operational Keepstar was destroyed in M-OEE8 for the first time. We go over a bit of what happened in this latest dev blog.

Just to inject a hit of reality: I was there. The tidi was utterly awful. I won't be going to the next one.

Being a Dev Blog, I was hoping for some details about the backend/servers related to this event; and not just another press-style article about the battle....

Node config; max load; memory used; etc. etc.

Very nice to see the full explosion of the keepstar. Many thanks for posting the video(s).

Oh, and... will CO2 get sanctioned for abandoning so many millions of lives to die? Blink

Cloaking is the closest thing to a "Pause Game" button one can get while in space.

Some of this; a technical follow up would be neat, highlighting the new infrastructure TQ runs on, compared to the best we could do previously.

Upwell takes the blame for this; it is ridiculous to think that Upwell engineers did so little for structure crews, after selling them Upwell's beautiful vision of a new life among the stars. Is life really this cheap in New Eden? Are conditions on planets so horrible, that millions of people (many of them with first rate technical skills) will take these risks to get off planets?

Can we discuss why nearly a third of those who attended DC'd and were unable to get back into the game, let alone the fight.

Siege of M-OEE8 "Timelapse" - Says it all.

CCP's solution TIDI - We want you to have big fights but can't handle them with current (or near future) technology, so - Lag fest it is.

My opinions are mine.

  If you don't like them or disagree with me that's OK.- - - - - - Just don't bother Hating - I don't care

It really is getting harder and harder to justify $23 a month for each sub.

Well, no matter what CCP does, fights just get big enough to overwhelm the technology. EVE has evolved from TQ begging to be shot out of its misery by 400 ships to the same but with 5,000 ships. To some it makes sense, to some it doesn't.

Probably in a parallel universe CCP decided that N+1 would overwhelm the servers no matter what, and went for a turn based system so at least each player had a chance to do something on each turn. One click per minute being better than no click for 20 minutes then you die.

And maybe that parallel universe CCP also decided to change how damage and resists work in large battles, say, removing resists for each ship present in the battle until reaching a point where ships get popped by anyone sneezing in their direction, thus players have some incentive to don't pile up and overwhelm the server.

As I said, the current race between server capacity and N+1 makes sense to some people, and it doesn't to some others. CCP obviously are in the "makes sense" band.

All in all, who of you play EVE to enjoy the experience? Blink

Lag fest is okey. But disconnects and other stuff is what TiDi was created to prevent. The main question why TiDi does not work?

I was there for armor timer. And it was really laggy and painful (at some point i was ready to selfdestruct just to get out Lol). And some things remainded me about pre-TiDi era: red-cycling weapons not able to be reused, locking ships which are not there, ships warping out twice or more times....

Despite the nice spin the battle was of course as one-sided as the US invasion of Grenada and the outcome was never in doubt. EVE has degenerated in slum lords online and the spoils have been divided among a few mega alliances. Doesn't mean we cannot have fun playing gangbangers. Who knows, if CCP is acquired by a new party they may bring some fresh insights into the game.

Although Circle-Of-Two lost their Keepstar the sheer numbers of ships lost by the attackers assaulting the Keepstar and in the ambush is more than conclusive enough to finalize that CO2 actually won the battle ISK wise and lost ships versus destroyed ships as well.

Now would be the time to strike the Alliances involved in the attack to further weaken their holds on their own territory.

I'm also surprised that such a large scale battle didn't draw Drifters and Circadian Seekers to the battle as well.

There is having fun with an environment such as Eve Online then there is the status of legend if you are able to build a large enough to secretly take out those mega alliances.

One by one they will all fall.

That is the structure of human kind.

Like sand through the fingers of the hand, reach and fall.

Reach and fall.

For the record, these battles are far better than what we had before things like TiDi. At least now you get to participate in the battle, albeit at 10% speed, instead of watching a blackscreen and inoperative modules for 3 hours before the node finally implodes under the weight of "Soul-crushing lag."
