Consoles are the future, man. Just ask an xbox fanboi.

No, Eve is dying. It's one of the longest lasting deaths I've ever heard of.

IMHO EVE will almost run forever because there is no competition by any non casual MMO. And even if there would be one it would be hard pressed to achieve the depth of Eve and IMHO the community of non casual players is too small for 2 games.
What I would like to know is how big the community on the China servers is.

EVE is a singular experience, nothing else is anything like it. Other MMOs have died off mostly because of being some kind of clone of Everquest or WOW etc. Even other space games are nothing like it, at least not on the inside. EVE is one of those rare cases of a game that actually challenges you. It comes with danger other MMOs do not have, and the consequences of your actions can have endless effects on not just your experience, but the experiences of others as well as the very game itself. There is a good reason why EVE is now considered a work of art, because it is one.

Imo EVE will be around for a long time, assuming that it stays in the hands of people who care about it rather than in the hands of people who would exploit it. (Looking at you CCP, I hope you do NOT sell)

Maybe the game is dying a slow death, but I prefer to look at it as a long life. The players make so much of the game and if we all take on that attitude and stop doom saying, the game will continue on and flourish.

Feel free to join me in game in the "Realm of Mischief" channel.

Mind you, EVE will never die, same as Ultima Online or Tibia still are alive. They just no longer are being developed and no longer matter but to a bunch of fans.

Bookmarked for future gloating. The only thing that will happen between now and 4 years from now is that the above poster will most likely rage quit again while swearing EVE will be dead soon.

Depends entirely on CCP, and by extension, shareholders.

Imo CCP is the finest remaining consolidated developer house since Westwood, Firaxis and Origin decades ago.

They are innovators always pushing the envelope, smart and intune with gaming development, prepared to take risks, and utterly dedicated to their consumers in a symbiosis that even Blizzard emulated.

Its a developer house for gamers, by gamers., with a unique tested and persevering product.

Yes, they failed in successfully integrating Valkyrie, DUST and Gunjack into the EVE continuity, at great expense.
Yes, the WoD project was a catastrophic failure.
I cant speak to why, or how, but the result was not good.
I hope, atleast, that CCP generated proprietary technology of value from these projects.
In anycase, they have staff capable of much more than before, as a result.

There is no competition in the market for what EVE is.
Frankly, Im surprised no other company has tried to emulate its model in another non-space setting.
Star Citizen offers a more vicarious experience of spaceship command, but lacks the depth of EVE.

I figure another 10 years of EVE, with a slow but inevtiable gradual zombification of development.
CCP tried bravely and rationally to progress EVE in WIS and associated side projects, into an integrated continuous entirety, so as to carry the EVE concept to the next level and future insurance, but failed.

Id encourage them, now, to develop an EVE integrated mobile app mini-game of some sort.

But I think overall, the price of the side projects failures when money was plentiful, is crippling insofar as this games evolution to compete in markets 10 yrs from now. Im not seeing CCP developing a next generation version of EVE. In 10 years, EVE will be the equivalent of a browser game today.

Im not optimistic about EVEs future. CCP wasted too much effort and money on side projects, without resulting in an integrated continuous whole, to remain competitive or lucrative 10+years from now. The VR and character modelling tech and know how CCP has has very little applicability to EVE in and of itself. Making EVE a VR experience means very little, people are used to seeing their ship only as a bracket on a 2d screen. Modelling only applies to character creation or avatar reconfiguration, neither of which are relevant to 99.99% of an EVE players ingame experience.

For years I was all in with Microsoft's Flight Simulators 9 and 10, but then they abandoned the code, the pilots and all those aftermarket devs. So, after a number of years I wind up here at Eve. Same deal, I'm all in, built three computers for three accounts, etc. Should CCP go down I'd miss'em, but eventually I'd wind up somewhere else, doing about what I'm doing now, no problem.

As long as there are people who thirst for such a game as Eve there will be somebody attempting to supply the desire. Even in the event that humans achieve actual interstellar space flight there will still be for a demand for a game. First person shooters are popular despite the opportunities for real life shots fired; doesn't hurt as much and is way less final getting killed in-game than in real life.

Forum Rep for a bunch of characters, couple corps and one seriously Lost In Space multiboxer.

The second sentence of the OP indicated the level of BS involved; I have friends who still play wow.

As for the third line, I play on a very ordinary laptop (5200U); I'm sure one of the Win 10 tablets would do nicely as well.
