Couple more newbie questions (players stations and aligning)

So, a couple questions I haven't been able to figure out yet:

1 - For player stations (Citadels, Engineering Complexes), some folks name them so that you know which ones have the upgraded reprocessors. But if they don't put that in the name, the only way I've found to determine the percentage is to dock and check it, which takes quite a while if there are a lot of stations around. Isn't there a way to see that info remotely? I can pull up the "show info" window for the station, but I can only see that it has a reprocessor. Am I missing a way to see this remotely, or is docking up to the station the only way?

2 - When aligning, is there a way to do it without actually moving? I thought when I played a couple years ago I could do this, but now when I click the "align" button, it actually makes me start traveling to the destination.

Thanks :)

If you are not moving you are not aligned.

1. No other way. Must dock and check.

2. You can align, wait a few seconds and then stop, and so your ship will be facing the direction you want to warp.

Confirmed.

The server doesn't track your ship orientation, your ship is a featureless ball, as far as the server database is concerned.

If you're at 0 speed, you're not "aligned" to anything, regardless of where the client appears to be pointing you. It takes equally long to get you from 0 speed to full speed in any direction.

The whole idea of "aligning" is to be moving towards your destination at 75% or more speed, so that if an enemy appears you instantly warp away, and don't waste time "aligning" before the warp.

show info on a citadel to see what services it has. You won't see tax rates, but you'll see if it has reprocessing.

Aligning means to meet the criteria to enter warp. To enter warp you must be moving 75% of your max speed towards your destination. Anything other than that means you are not aligned, especially if you are at 0m/s (there is no such thing as a so-called passive align.)

Reiterating passive align is a myth, many people think it works, it most definitely does not and never did.

OK, got it.

Have to be moving to really be aligned. I was taking it to mean "pointed in the right direction", but see now that the movement towards that point is also part of it.

Yeah, I checked some more tonight. You can at least see who has reprocessing remotely, but to see which ones are upgraded, you have to dock. For now, I'm just bookmarking the ones whose names show the upgrade. Frankly, there's enough of them, I don't think it matters much if I miss the ones who don't advertise it in the name.

Thanks, all :)

Yeah, moving then stopping just aligns the GRAPHICS, in code, your ship is just a sphere with a velocity vector, you have to be moving in the direction of where you want to warp (This is where you can get drifting orcas :P) and be at 75% max speed to be able to warp when desired.

i have a similar question, but in the setting of stealth bombing, not for warping. When you align (cloaky) toward something which does not move, if you stop you ship, will he stay "aligned" toward the target or not? I mean, if i uncloak and launch bomb, with speed at zero, will the bomb move straight toward the direction i am facing or not? or should i keep a very low speed (10m/s) to stay aligned toward the target?

thks

Patch notes for YC118.10 Release 1.0

Bomb launchers now have a minimum speed which the ship must be at before a bomb can be launched.

The EVE server does not track which way your ship is pointing; your ship is a featureless sphere as far as the server is concerned. Your EVE client can render it in the same direction as you just traveled, but other players may not see it pointed that way.

In any case, CCP has changed the bombers to have a minimum speed, 1 m/s, which will tell the server which direction to launch the bombs.

You have to be moving with at least 1 m/s towards the target to launch a bomb. (This is a very recent change, and used to not be the case, so if you do a google search you'd probably find some information around "doomportaling", which relied on staying at 0 m/s and launching a bomb, which would cause it to not move at all and detonate in the same spot it launched. This is no longer possible.)
