Hey all, myself and 2 other friends are giving eve a shot with alpha clones and we are looking for any possible player resources anyone can hook us up with for pvp. In every game we play together our main focus is always pvp heavy, usually fun and chill attitudes. We have been pouring thru some resources so far and we mostly want to focus on frigate pvp with the obvious upgrade to subscriber if we enjoy it enough to stick around. We are a small group just starting so we dont expect to do much other than dent some ship paint but we will keep at it. The ingame tutorial seems rather poorly designed in the realm of pvp so we want to make sure we have a general point in the right direction. We like really fast paced playstyles if that helps as well, we have no real interest in 900 player fights or any of that.

Get involved in a faction warfare Corp, fighting is exactly what you want. Solo to small gang PvP with mainly frigates and destroyers!

Can you suggest any good leads for us to follow up with? Also read that fw can completely mess up a character if you pvp too much? Not sure if i read that right but something along the lines of making a char almost unplayable due to some warfare mechanics? Theres tons of resources on google and youtube but not sure which of them are actually updated enough to be good leads. Do we all need to be the same race to sign up into fw or a corp?

While Eve PvP may be fast paced once the shooting starts much of the fight happens before the first module is engaged. If you are looking for a button mashing, run back from the graveyard, rinse and repeat kind of game Eve is not it. Explosions in this game mean something and you will likely wind up using a lot more strategy in this game than others.

As far as Faction Warfare and standings goes... there is nothing that you can do to your standings / sec status that can not be fixed later on. Yes you can get it bad enough that it would be a bit of a grind to get back to where you can fly through the opposing faction's high sec space without getting chased by the navy but it can be fixed. Also you guys are on alpha accounts. There is nothing stopping you from having 2 different characters and using one for FW and not caring about your standings.

First off, there are no race restrictions on joining any faction's militia. The only requirement is that you have 0.0 or greater standings with your faction of interest. When you sign up for a militia, you will first be placed into the generic militia corporation for your faction (24th Imperial Crusade, State Protectorate, Federal Defense Union or Tribal Liberation Force) and you will gain access to that faction's militia-wide chat channel. From there you can join capsuleer corporations within that militia.

So there are two considerations to be made here, one concerning your faction standing and another concerning your security status. Each faction is at war with two other factions (Gallente and Minmatar vs. Amarr and Caldari). If you fight as a member of one faction's capsuleer militia you will eventually lose some standing with their opponents. If you lose enough standing you will be unwelcome in that opposing faction's territory. Upon joining a faction's militia you also become a war target to the opposing militia, meaning they are allowed to fire on you anywhere, even in hisec, without fear of CONCORD intervention. Lastly, if you fight too many people unaffiliated with the opposing militia, your security status will decline, and you may eventually be unwelcome in hisec. Since many unaffiliated "pirates" live in FW lowsec and regularly engage members of the militia unprovoked, security status decline is to some degree inevitable. However, there are items you can farm (Clone Soldier dogtags) or purchase that you can trade in to raise your security status. Standing, too, can be fixed, but that is usually a longer, more tedious process.

These consequences are easily disregarded if you don't find much appeal in hi-sec content. Many PvPers are rather proud of their lower sec status, and simply set up alternative characters to purchase and ship items to their main characters, or pay a shipping service to do so. The more organized FW corps will have stocks of T1 ships to hand out to new players so that they can contribute to fleet warfare while they're still learning to be self-sufficient.

You and your friends should probably look around to see what hi-sec content, if any, you might enjoy before considering FW. I personally can't think of any group activities that can't be done more efficiently solo, but fun and efficient aren't always on the same side of an issue. Fly around to different faction territories and trade hubs and decide what space you wouldn't mind being locked out of if you decided to join FW on your main character. Plant a character in each of the militias to access their respective militia chat channels and ask about which organized PvP groups are willing to take on and train new players and alphas, whether they have shipping services, whether their hours of activity align with yours, and what ships they'd expect you to train into. THEN make a decision about which to join, or whether to join at all.

You beat me to it :D
But yeah, as he was saying about sec status, I'm not IN a FW corp, i just roam the region that has it so my sec status is VERY low, so that I cant really take this char anywhere in highsec, but if i need any hauling work done, i use one of my highsec alts for it. But if you are actually in FW, your sec status wont degrade nearly as bad, and if it does, you can always fix it with a few missions.

In addition to what others have mentioned, join the SPECTRE FLEET channel in game. It's an organization that forms public "NPSI" (Not Purple, Shoot It - purple being the colortag for fleetmates) fleets. Very fun.

Most Fridays/Saturdays at 02:00, there is a frig/dessie fleet that is pretty accessible for alphas.

"Help, I'm bored with missions!"
