After spending all my time in hi-sec space, i decided to suit up to do a bit of exploration in a T1 Imicus with T2 modules, nothing too exspensive but enough to get some practice in and learn the ropes when it comes to relic and data hunting.
After a couple of days hunting round in high sec space and watching a few tutorials on youtube i got comfortable with the process and decided to venture in lower sec space for better returns and more data/relic sites but..... the first gate i go through taking me into lower sec was camped with several gankers and got blew up straight away.

Now my question is, what can i use to prepare myself from this happening again? when i warped though the gate i spawned cloaked as usual and noticed that the gate was camped and knew i had little chance of survival, my first thought was to warp to the closest destination alligned with my ship so that i uncloaked and warped as fast as i could but due to my lack of PVP knowledge in the game, it was clearly unsuccessful..

Check the map first and filter by kills in the last hour, good idea of whats waiting. You can also filter by average pilot count so again you get a good idea of how active the system is.

Also check the killboards and search the target system, any kills will usually show if ships are being ganked as they all like to get on the kill.

There are a lot of systems that are empty and many that are always camped, just do some homework before jumping in, better still use an alt to scout ahead.

Have fun.

Try that in High sec gates to practice some.
Also you could use a scout alt, to check the gate for you, with a cheap ship.

If you want to go to less safe space just use a wormhole in HS!

Honestly, wormhole exploring has better loot and it's safer too.

Just remember to bookmark as soon as you enter system, the exit wormhole is not saved automatically.

Another option is to fit Fit Nanofiber Internal Structure II modules in your low slots to get your to warp time down. Look for 'Align Time' in the lower right of the fitting window. This is the time to get into warp. At least get it below 3s. Then you should be able to go straight through most low sec gate camps. Don't wait until you uncloak, just go.

Skill up 'evasive maneuvering'

Also research 'save spot', and fit a prototype cloak so you can't be probed down in your safe spot.

Also, when your ship is about to go bang, start spamming the warp button to anything far away enough. You should instawarp as soon as it explodes and save your pod.

If you have jumped into a camped system, there are two options to attempt to escape:

1) When you break your gate cloak, activate your own cloak (should be an Improved Cloak or a Covert Ops cloak if your ship can use it), activate your microwarp drive (this is required, it really doesn't work with an afterburner) and align out towards a random celestial. Assuming it's not a covert ops cloak, wait for the MWD cycle to complete, then drop your cloak and initiate warp. You should already be at enough speed to get into warp immediately.
2) Crash the gate. Overheat and activate whatever prop mod you have and approach the gate you entered through. If you are doing exploration then I'm assuming you will be in a frigate, which should be able to cover the 15km back to the gate pretty quickly. It won't always work, but it might just save you.

In either case, wait for the right opportunity to make your move. You have a 30-second gate cloak and if the campers are moving, you might get a window where the fast tacklers are far enough away that they won't be in range to tackle you. Take your time, examine your surroundings, and don't panic.

I was exploring into 0.4 space my 1st (and last) time and as soon as I passed thru to other side, I was blasted by Concord. Still not sure why. I thought it was gankers until I read kill report.
