What class of wormhole?

My corp is currently living in a C2 with a null sec and C5 static. I'm loving wormhole life, and I'm thinking of a little side project.

I've never been one for multiple accounts, but I do have to available character slots on this account. I'm thinking of creating two characters with scanning and PI skills, and moving into a low class wormhole with a low sec static. The idea would be that they would provide some passive income with PI and exploration, as well as providing an alternate base for me to use for my main.

Given the fairly low level of activity in this hole, which kind of system is most practical? The ideal seems like a C2 with a low sec and C2 static. This gives me reasonable access to high sec, access to low sec pvp and ratting, and another C2 for additional exploration.

But C2s are popular for this reason, and I don't want to put a POS/Astrahaus only to get evicted a short while later.

A C1 with low sec static seems like the safest option, and the content is available even to low skilled characters. Once set up, evicting me becomes a real pain due to the mass limitations.

But C1s are notoriously low income. Would a C3 with a low sec static be better? Or are the eviction risks too high?

If anyone has feedback or experience on this, I'd love to hear it.

if you aren't running the sites it doesn't matter tbqh

doubt 2->2/LS would be as contested as you're imagining

I think you're over estimating the popularity of a c2/c2/ls.

Not really. If someone wants to evict you mass limit is not going to stop them.
Evictions are not as common though, they really boring so they need to be worth the effort. If you're getting evicted you've either been a **** to someone, or you look like you have to much value in your wormhole. If you have just one astrahus in a c2/c2/ls probably no one is gonna bother.

That's very interesting. I had not realized that a c2/c2/ls was not considered particularly desirable. Outside of really high end stuff, they strike me as the best possible combination of connections.

Very good to know.

Any other suggestions, or factors I ought to consider?

You should consider that C2s are more often inhabitated by smaller pvp corporations than C1's because of the possible statics in a C2 and you will have more traffic with a C2 static. I doubt that anyone is interested in shooting an Astrahus in a C1 with a low sec static connection. The combat sites in a C1 are also quick to farm with a mediocre skilled character while C2 sites are a pain in the ass imho and not time efficient enough to be rewarding. (maybe the reward ranking changed now with that low melted nano ribbon price, i am not really up to date because of a 2 year break from Eve)

anyway, fly safe

That had been my concern too. I simply don't have enough experience to judge the likely outcomes.

Heh. I was all set to go with the C2, but now I'm having second thoughts.

Just do the c2 tbh, haus are only 1b. Live light and you'll be fine

If ISK was not an issue, I'd agree with you. Unfortunately, 1b is a great deal to me - certainly much more than I have right now.

I suspect that I'll simply keep looking for an appropriate wormhole while I'm saving the start-up costs. It needs to be empty, and have the combination of planets that I'm looking for, sites I can solo, and a low sec connection. With those requirements, I probably need to be open minded about the wormhole class!

Thank you to everyone who left comments. If there are any further tips or suggestions, I'm happy to hear them.

why not just setup your PI farm in your current wormhole?

I have four characters that essentially never leave my wormhole, they're purely PI alts and one has a smidgeon of extra probing skills.

At the moment, that's what I've got. But the hole was chosen for pvp links, rather than for PI or industry. Only two of the six planets are decent, and with our k-space static leading to null sec, getting product out is often challenging.

I'm just keeping my eye out for something better, but I thought I could use a steer as to what 'better' actually meant. :D

C3 LS is the way to go. Bash the Pocos and setup an alt corp. Fairly quiet at times but there still is some PVP to be had.

Why do C3/LS when you can do C2/LS+C2? You get a second static for content and ISK, and all the benefits of a lowsec connection. Same for C2/NS+C5/6 holes. This is why no serious PVP corps live in C3's and so many C3's go empty, aside from the D845 holes, which all get flipped every time someone like BRAVE gets bored.

In your view, then, are C3 LS holes quieter than C1 LS holes? If asked, I would have thought that the lower value hole would be the one more likely to go empty, but when I thought about your comment I realized that I've camped many C1 holes, but never a C3.

With just the one exit, it can be very quiet. There are times when 3-4 other exits are present but for the most part there is far less traffic then C1/C2 because of the high sec exits and multi exits they have.

As an added bonus, you can run C3 SITES (explore and others) solo or with an alt. But PI is where the passive income comes into play.

I think your fear of getting evicted is overdone - as long as you don't pick a very desirable hole as mentioned above and don't go out of your way to be a jerk. Things that make WH's attractive are HS static, very good PI planets & certain effects.

I was thinking along similar lines and from the responses I gather C3s would be ideal?

Just posting a follow-up for anyone looking at doing something similar.

I've been scouting around, and looking for decent low class wormholes with low sec statics. I've been keeping an open mind, and exploring C1-3s as I find them.

It became apparent very early on that there are not many C2s available. These seem very popular, even with the low sec exit. Thinking about it, this makes sense - these wormholes connect to other C2s, so your static has a very good chance of offering you a high sec exit, and if it doesn't, low sec will do in a pinch.

As chain systems, C2s were also very busy. While this is ideal for a even a small corporation, I got the feeling that for a solo player it would be very hard to find times that you could pve with any security. Probably not worth it for what I'm planning on doing.

C3s were much quieter, but seem to be profitable enough that I've not yet found a decent one that is completely empty. I've got an alpha clone sitting in a C3 with only one active POS in case I decide to go that way.

I've looked seriously into this, and the one downside (for me) is that C3s are at about the limit of what a player can solo. While this maximizes your profit, you need dedicated pve ships, and even then there are some sites that you probably can't do alone. As someone who does not want to pve intensively, this is a bit of a turn off, but ymmv.

Perhaps I just got lucky, but empty low sec C1s seem relatively easy to find. Presumably this is because people either return to k-space, or decide to upgrade to a C3. This is the direction I'm currently leaning in because all the sites are very low effort, which is what I'm looking for. I won't be doing anything until after the holidays, though, so I could change my mind if the right C3 came along.
