Hey guys not sure if this is the right place to post this but I bet you'll know! I am completely new to this game and loving it so far. Now I'm having problems with choosing destinations in a hurry and utilising bookmarks etc. I know how to save a location but don't know how to get to it quickly etc.

I want a bit of excitement and make some ISk so I've decided to start off exploring to fund my future warships etc. So far I have made it through a couple of wormholes and back (and been blown to smithereens) and I think I need to refine some skills. Basically if I warp in and there's someone there how do I quickly get out? Or if I've been afk and I come back to see myself half dead how do I quickly take control and run?

Is there a fast way to see the location you just were in? Do I open the map and pick from there ? Do I randomly click something in that too right bar and hope I can warp to it? Like I say I'm a complete noob so please if you know explain simply as you would to a mentally challenged infant I need step by step help! Thanks so much for reading!

Your ability to warp out is governed by your ships agility, and the time it takes you to align and warp off is your 'alignment time'.

While not all ships are created equal, smaller ships generally have better agility and alignment times, and so will enter warp more quickly. Modules can affect these attributes, however, both for better and for worse. Armor plates, for example, reduce your agility, and Nanofibers and Inertial Stablizers increase you agility (although they come with their own penalties, too). So you can fit your ships for fast warp-outs if that is what you want to do.

Of course, none of this matters if you have already been 'pointed'. That is, someone has successfully activated a Warp Disruptor or Warp Scrambler targeting your ship. At that point you won't get away unless you can outrun them (these modules have a limited range) or you have sufficient Warp Core Stabilizers fitted.

If you like reading about low sec piracy or wormhole pvp, you might enjoy my blog.

I can answer your AFK question:
"Or if I've been afk and I come back to see myself half dead how do I quickly take control and run?"
Don't AFK. The only place I AFK is in a station. Well, not entirely true I guess, but on the rare occasions I do AFK, I'm either cloaked or I'm prepared to come back minus one ship and a few +3 implants.

One thing I see new players do when they try to warp fast is to activate speed mods (afterburners, micro-warp drives). Activating these will make you take longer to align and warp out. The Orca is an exception (there's probably others, I'm an old newb), but even then there is a 10 second wait.

Bookmarks in system are available by right-clicking anywhere in space, as are most warpable destinations available to you. A good overview pack will have a "Pod Saver" tab as well, which has nothing but warpable objects on it, switch to this when you need to get out of dodge and mash the warp button on something. You can also have your people and places window open, bookmarks in your current system are highligted green.

The trick though, is to have your warp out point selected ahead of time. Having planets and asteroid belts visible in space allows you to mouse over a planet with several belts and pick one at random to reduce the chances of someone following you. Always warp to it at a random range. If you feel like you're going to need to leave shortly, start to align ahead of time, that way if you're disturbed you can just hit the warp button and peace out immediately.

As for being AFK, don't. It'll get you killed.
