Friends are the family you choose, indeed.

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.

Family is a strange thing, sometimes it seems no two are the same.

In the parivaars of my homeworld the family unit is mostly unheard of, as the parivaar itself is treated as a large extended family (in fact, the word itself is derived from the Vaanin k'Intaki word for family). There is no traditional marriage, unrelated adults may enter monogamous relationships, or may simply couple together for a time as they please. Child-rearing is taken very seriously and is everyone's job, though there are members of the community whose skills and dispositions lend them naturally to the role of teacher or guardian. Meals and living space is shared with the other residents of your homestead and household duties are shared.

Growing up like this makes one feel as though they have many parents and many brothers and sisters. It was somewhat difficult for me to adapt to the capsuleer lifestyle of independence and rugged individuality.

Question for anyone who might find responding interesting. Whom among we capsuleers has a spouse, sibling, parent, or other blood relative that is also a capsuleer? Do the traits that allow us to become successful pilots run in family lines?

Hi,

Yeppers. my twin brother was a pilot.

I'm sure we all have a lot of similar genetic traits that allowed to be what we are.

Interestingly enough I got a message a while back informing me that a genetic relative of mine had been accepted into the capsuleer program. I was surprised as I wasn't aware that anyone back home was interested in the capsuleer life.

It turned out that we were related through my paternal grandfather, a Sebiestor war orphan who had been adopted at a young age by a Gallente diplomat. He was raised on Gallente Prime and had no connection to his relatives back home, so I was very excited to meet my long lost cousin. We are now business partners.
