Has ever been discussed in the forum the possibility to change the names of the systems in null by their owners?

A faction that own a system for at least a year, change the name from B-6YZQ to Sexybee, for example, or at least add a nickname to the official system name: Sexybee (B-6YZQ)

no it would just cause clutter and confusion when navigating. people already name the systems they live in and it works just fine

I guess he meant stations.

But put the nickname in (), and that wouldn't cause any confusion.

AB-XYZ (Systemnickname)

it would be just cosmetics.

how did i contradict myself?

those who live in systems will generally give them a name and it has no effect on those roaming through the system. aside from adding clutter to the top left there is no need for devs to waist time on this when players are already doing it w/o any in game mechanics

It's been brought up before and the answer is always no.

No one wants to have to navigate through systems named "SexyTits McBoobie Face" which is the idiotic type of name that would be used.

In the real world, very few stars have proper names - just the brightest visible to the naked eye. The rest follow one or more naming conventions developed before the telescope was invented. Some have multiple names i.e. Deneb is also known as Alpha Cygni (Bayer convention) and 50 Cygni (Flamsteed convention).

Nowadays stars are named using a string of numbers representing their right-ascension, declination and year of discovery - the system for naming stars in nulsec is a whole lot easier. The first 3 characters uniquely identify the system and are easier to remember than the names of a lot of empire systems.

The problem with giving official recognition to nicknames is that they change. You can call the place you live anything you want - no one cares as long as the official catalog reference stays constant.

What about "A Horse Just Bit My Ass"? Surely such brilliant possibilities would bring system name customizations back into the fold.

I'm Regulus, a crazy trader living in a dangerous place... I like roleplaying a few the game. Is more funny travel trough LobsterRing system than B-89Q, it's not all about hoarding money

Russian territory could see very cool with all systems in cyrilick names

Explore systems searching anomalies is bored and confused with all names in hexadecimal code

I know where YA0-XJ, D-W7F0, Y-2ANO, HED-GP and B-R5RB are. I don't know where LOLGOONS, Mittanigrad, LOLPL, GET THE POD and DEAD TITAN STORAGE are, to use some likely and worksafe nicknames for those systems.

Alternately:

Let people, corporations, or alliances assign internal nicknames, and allow players to choose whether or not to use them at all.

If CCP found the time to charge me 5 mil to award medals to people for being slightly more intelligent than a bowl of pudding that do nothing, I don't see anything functionally wrong with charging me 5 million to register a corp nickname for frequently travelled systems that are easier to refer to in-organization.
