It looks like a good deal of work went into the new player experience, and the concept is good, but it’s got some serious issues.
The old system which I tried as a trial last month didn't teach me as much, but it also didn't fail as big.

Getting ahead of the dialog a bit (which is tediously slow), can bomb out the entire progression.

The first time I made it as far as when you get the skill injector, but must have clicked too fast and didn’t receive it. The progress through the tutorial comes to a halt. Just keeps telling me to use something I don't have. I created a new character and started over.

#2 having done this before, I looted a cargo container before I was told to and – I can no longer progress in the tutorial. It wants me to take something that's already in my cargo. (I tried to put the survivor back, but it wont let me).

I'm 0 for 2 now - that's two characters created, neither made it to the end of the tutorial.

Furthermore, the acting / dialog is painfully bad. Cringe worthy. And it just keeps going....

alt-y to open your redeem items menu. That should resume your tutorial.

For the other character on the Operations Info Panel there is a ? that is rather hard to see. If you click on that it should reset the last stage if you did something out of order.

Next time you get stuck, try asking for help in rookie chat. I know it's pretty spammy, so if no one answers your question, ask again.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

Alt-y did the trick! Thank you, I must have missed where it said that and would have never guessed.

I'll try the other tip next.

I did try rookie help several times over a few days with no luck - thanks again!

You can also reset the tutorial back a step, by clicking the little ? right under the Operations Info Panel heading on the left side of your screen.

And for future reference, the EVE user interface is subtletricky like this; a lot of the very critical options are hidden under a right-click menu, or behind a small i info button or small sprocket icon containing lots of useful config. settings.

The = right above your portrait on the toolbar on the left is actually equivalent to the Start-> button in Windows. All of EVE's in-game apps are hidden in there, including the Redeem Items window, Contracts, Calculator, Notepad, Agent Finder, Fittings Config (save and load your ship fittings), etc. You don't need to memorize alt-y and other keyboard shortcuts if you remember this start button, and also that right-click will likely open up a context-sensitive menu with many options. You can pin any apps that you find useful to the bar on the left, by just dragging them there.

EDIT: Rookie Help is super-busy and your questions get lost in the chatter, sometimes. Now that you've found this forum, keep in mind that you're welcome here, feel free to ask as many questions as you want.

I've played those other MMOs where you just click through NPC scripted convos. Eve is not like that.

In Eve you need to read through the text and follow instructions. If you don't and try just clicking through stuff like you do in other MMOs you will continue to have issues in Eve.

Also those other MMOs have tons of quests and if you stopped to read everything it would take forever to get to level cap. Eve does not have much scripted PvE. Also there is no level cap in Eve and so that race to get leveled up that you go through in other games is just not present here.

If you want to play Eve for Eve I'd suggest slowing down a bit and smelling the roses. Eve is really a very different game and I'm just suggesting you slow down and give it a chance. If you want to continue to play it as if it were like all those other themepark MMOs I can save you the "bother" and just tell you that you won't like Eve if you want to try and race through the "content" to get to level cap.

Eve is a sandbox PvP MMO where the players are the content. So enjoy the handful of tutorials while you have them because after you are done with them that's it. For the rest of the game you are pretty much on your own not only to figure out how to do stuff but also just to figure out what it is that you want to do. You have to make your own path in this game.

TL;dr
Open up your mind and give Eve a chance. Don't try and play it like it's one of the many WoW clones.
