after many years of not playing I have started, or think I have started, an alpha account. I read the email concerning alpha for old returning players and thought it said I would have my old characters just not at old strength, training, etc. it seems that I have a new character and none of my old stuff, money, ships, etc. can someone enlighten me on what I have here?

Login to your old account with your old credentials - your old character and all your stuff should be where you left it. If you can't remember your old information, CCP will help but be patient - there are a lot of people in the same boat.

Edit: just noticed. That is your old character - 2007 birthdate. check your personal assets - will show you where your stuff is located.

If they were all tied to the same email account I believe there is a way to see all accounts with the same email address on your account management web page.

If you just log into the account management web page, in the account information on the front page it lists:
account name
E-mail Address
and then there is a hyperlink right under email address to "Otheraccounts sharing: yourname@gmail.com" where "yourname@gmail.com is actually the email address that the account you are logged into is attached to.

If that does not work for you then file a GM ticket and they will eventually get back to you. The GMs will help you get access to the old account.

If you contact support and tell them all of your character names you can remember they might be able to help you out.

Here's hoping you can recover your original account!

Be really patient though. On the o7 show they said that they received a full month's worth of petitions in three days of the expansion. So calling the GM staff overworked right now is not an understatement.

If you can remember any of the characters names they can probably find the account. You will have to verify ownership though by providing details you only know such as the following possibilities:

1) Email address linked to the account
2) How the account was paid
3) Real name on the account and birthday
4) Billing address of the card ( if one was used) to pay for the account.
5) The card number in whole or part that was used on the account.

Go ahead and give the Career missions a go if you are truly poor. I don't know if you ever completed the tutorial. The career mission rewards are out of proportion to normal rewards, and the free ships can be useful.
