hi guys, i'm a new player and alpha clone, and i've come to ask about knowing the kind of ships i'm fighting against.

i'm going to use a galente vexor soon, and notices i'll be able to use light and medium scout drones, and after some reading i checked both have their pro's and con's, basicly that light drones are good against frigates and medium against cruisers.

the question i'm doing is... how do i know i'm facing a frigate or a cruiser? is there a simple way of knowing on the fly or is more about getting knowledge of which ships are under each class?

i ask because i find the latter option to be a bit tedious, as i don't know many ships (only the starting ones i can use)

Frigs and cruisers have different icons on your targetting overview. They also look different when you zoom out and see them on the screen.

Here is a good devblog that outlines the ship icons you can see.

As above, frigates and cruisers have different icons in the overview.

Otherwise, for PVE, the basic rule is:

Level 1 missions - you'll see frigates escorting a destroyer or two.
Level 2 missions - you'll see frigates/destroyers escorting a cruiser or two.
Level 3 missions - cruisers escorting a battlecruiser or two, with frigates running jamming / electronic warfare
Level 4 missions - cruisers/battlecruisers escorting battleships, with frigates jamming / electronic warfare

For PVP, the Overview will tell you the exact ship type of the enemy player (it will say Vexor, Moa, etc.), and you need to print out a ship chart until you learn the game enough to know what's what from memory.

There is also a tab called "size" that you can add in your overview. Typically frigates are 30-50m in size, while cruisers are 80m+ so that can help until you learn more about each ship.

Very helpful.
