Inception, the new New Player Experience with Ascension, is a great success so far! Of course we are not stopping here, instead we are working already on improving Inception further.

Check out what we have improved already and what we are working on in the blog Inception 1.5 - Further Improvements to the New Player Experience

My exposure to it is 2nd hand through the help channels. I deal with the people who are stuck and frustrated encountering the many many many flaws with it. I hope you're doing data analysis on the chat logs because from where I sit, the whole thing sounds like one huge charlie foxtrot.

i would hardly call it a success..all you have done (yet again) is supply the gankers of hi-sec.

eve is a game of ganking and scamming if you feel proud of your creation you are a group of very sad people

Good day.

I am about 10 days old now and I must say the new player experience has been great. I know there must be some issues as with the people above me stating they have had issues but for me it has been a great introduction into the game.

Can I ask if you will be voice automating all missions going forward?

I found the starter missions if we can call them this were really engaging but when the career agents missions came up they were well very poor. Its like you have test driven a rolls royce and then you get taken around the corner and see that what you buying is actually a vw bettle.

I'd like to make a suggestion to have a mention on how to bookmark a wreck for later salvaging, as well as the short window of time that it can be done in. Coming back and salvaging the FAX that gets killed in the final site is worth a good chunk of ISK (for a new player, at least), and would absolutely be worth it for them to do. They already start with the necessary skills, and while it may take a few cycles to accomplish, it's certainly doable.

This is a very common observation. One hope CCP has expressed in the past has been for improvements to automated text-to-speech, because the amount of mission text that would need to be recorded by voice actors would be enormous, multiplied by number of languages they'd like to support. I think they would have to license an engine, like the tech behind Siri or Cortana. On other hand, if they could find the budget to support recording real voice actors for all that text, I'd be in favor of it :)

You must feel so proud of participating in the game that is all about ganking and scamming. They have attracted you and new players. Therefore, we can assume they are indeed proud of their creation.

good job with the NPE i watched a few new players on twitch doing the NPE while i was roaming and they seemed to enjoy it.

I hope the career agents are on your list of things to revamp because they are very old by now and partially redundant in context of the NPE The exploration one doesn't teach you probing for example, the military agent explains the web... despite the fact you got that explained in the NPE already.

The SOE epic arc has the issue that the NPCs seem to be far to weak. Ships improved over the years and new chars have now more SP but NPCs stayed the same. New players can already one shot most of them.

keep it up!

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

From what I have seen so far:

- Career agents should be an extension of the NPE. They really need some review/revamp. It's not uncommon to see people stuck in career missions.
- Talking about it, canceling a career mission is something that people do when they are stuck. But sadly, then they are unable to get the same mission again. This is terrible.
- Newbeans get lost in delayed channels. Is it possible to make then change automatically to/from delayed mode when the 50 people cap is reached?
- Also about channels, is it possible to increase the limit a bit? 50 is a really small number and even in a big fleet this is really annoying when you are trying to coordinate specific roles/things in a certain channel.
- More talks about what the new player can do and how free he is. People usually get stuck in the "no more missions, what do I do now?"
- More talks about how EVE is different from other MMO's maybe? People come here with the wrong mentality sometimes.
- Feed then a few extra things about the UI (or even force then to check the YT channel, dunno)

I think its it.

Please adjust the "Less then 1 day subscription" above your Alpha clone selection entering page when starting the game, it is confusing for people PLEXing clones that were never in Alpha state.

*

Result: login, see 1 day on logon, think: busy day, lets do it tomorrow; miss a day of skill-queuing, have a reset queue due to omega skills being "not" trained on logon.

Conclusion; very annoying.

*

Suggestion;

- For Alpha Clone accounts, add the infinite sign with the Alpha picture next to it
- For Omega Clone accounts that are subscribed and auto-renewing, add the infinite sign with the Omega sign next to it
- For Plexed Omega accounts without auto renewal, have the days of the subscription like now with the Omega sign next to it.

Hey guys,
I found the NPE rather enjoyable from a new player point of view.
Yes there are little things that could be better but when is a release right in the first instance.

May I suggest to also move forward and quickly.
Yes tweak the NPE but make sure you expand on it. Don't spend too much time fiddling with it.
If you don't expand and continue to capture the people, they wont hang around too long.

Cheers

1) Please give each delayed chat an info bulletin it is delayed, and an info bulb on it, with a more detailed explainer to tell a new player what that means.

2) Maybe give an end window that you can recall, with EVE links on it, like youtube, forums, reddit, tweetfleet, etc.

Don't waste resources on voiceovers for the old missions, they are boring gameplay and hearing the meaningless mission text spoken out loud will not change that. I don't believe many people ever cared about the texts, in the end it's always just "go there and shoot this" or "move this" or "retrieve this" anyway.

Instead, introduce more new, different PvE. I recently started doing some PvE again after a really long break where I lived off savings. Now I live with some alts in a c3 wormhole system. And I have to say, it is much better than a couple years ago. The relic/data minigame in its current form is quite entertaining and requires a (modest) bit of thinking. Nothing I want to do for an hour straight, but a nice little distraction. Mix it with flying anomalies, a little mining and the occasional alpha newbie coming in to get killed, it almost resembles fun. But we need more good minigames to add variety.

New Marauders are also fun to fly in PvE, but would be nice to have a ship class with similar gameplay but far cheaper (and thus obviously far less powerful).

(There may be other good new PvE like maybe those burner missions, but I wouldn't know because they are not available in wormholes :p )

After the recent patch that made NPE available to older accounts, I made one new character just to be able to answer stuff relating to it.

I got stuck in the 'place the skill into the queue' part because well, you need MCTraining to activate other training queues per acct.

I know the drill for how to move on of course, but this might confuse newer players that are experimenting with multiple characters. Somehow its.. kinda crude to logoff/login the character with the running queue, just to finish that specific line in the NPE. So maybe a mechanic that enables you to.. skip parts of the NPE? I am terribly sorry for this post if there is already something like this implemented...

Also, some of the newer players i've talked to seem to quit the career agents and get frustrated when they could not talk to them again, but that's past the NPE scope..

Overall, happy to see all the REAL new gamers trying out our universe.

I think the changes to the NPE are overall good. There is one nitpick which is exemplified here:
Quote:
In Inception you become a key player for your empire in responding to the mysterious Drifters who are attacking all over.

"Key player" sums up a problem with the new perception EVE players get. Other MMORPGs, like WoW, treat each player as if the game revolves around them. CCP, do not make that mistake with this game.

New players should feel immersed and should feel like a cog being used by their respective state to achieve a goal. But they should never be made to feel more or less special by NPCs than any other cog that drops into the game. In fact, I would say that you can use the: "sorry, you are nothing but a cog in the machine" attitude of the NPCs to drive a split off NPE: pirate affiliations or even corporate sponsorships by player run corporations.

Don't cheapen EVE by trying to make each player feel they are special and the central figure. We have Wolrd of Warcraft and WildStar for those kinds of hand holding feel goods.

Otherwise: excellent job on the NPE getting players more into the feel of the game.

Cloaking is the closest thing to a "Pause Game" button one can get while in space.

You used to have a very brief Aura tutorial (nothing like the current Inception NPE) and then go straight to the career agents after that.

It's a good idea to revamp the career agents (whether with or without audio), but then you'll face the same issue (that feeling of a quality/detail downshift) when you go from them to regular combat L1/L2/L3/L4 missions afterwards... so it'll just delay the problem rather than fix it.

As a huge fan of salvaging (this toon was created to be a Noctis alt originally), hear hear! More love for the looting+salvaging tutorialing. ;)

Interesting problem. Yeah, just clicking the "start queue" button should be enough to progress, even if it results in an error due to no MCT... for a true newbie alpha, clicking start queue would successfully start training... and for an oldie, it wouldn't (but that's okay, because they probably don't really want to start training, anyway).

As for career agents... they're past the Inception NPE scope, perhaps... but they're still part of the overall NPE scope. I'd say the NPE doesn't end until newbros are done with the 45 (IIRC?) career agent missions.

I am an older character, so how do I access this new player experience....or has that part been implemented yet? This new inception story sounds interesting.
