To what extent is botting allowed in EVE?

Hi!
I've heard numerous times that botting such as mining bots is a bannable offence in eve and have read hillarious stories of machariels and procurers getting ganked at belts since they were all bots.

Something I am wondering is if this also counts for scammers? I have seen numerous scammers at amarr posting the same thing over and over again and in my opinion it is highly likely some of them are bots just repeating the message over and over again because its the same people saying the same thing at very obscure times like in the early morning still in afternoon and when im home at mid day they are also there. How come this is okay? Scamming I understand is ok, but the botting part is what I'm questioning.

Prove they are botting and get em banned. CCP needs proof before they can act. But if you are fairly sure any particular individual is botting because xyz reason you should report it

Proving this particular kind of 'botting is exceedingly difficult. How do you tell if someone is using a 'bot to re-paste the message or just copy/pasting it into local with annoying regularity?

Having said that, I'd say screenshot it and report it. I hang out in Amarr a lot too and I'd love to see less of them, but I just block them or ignore local altogether.

I don't think you even need copy and paste. I think pressing the up arrow when in a chat copies the last text you type. So all these spammers need to do is press up and then return ever once in a while to spam.

I think you are mistaken when you suppose they must be botting. It would be interesting to verify if some of them appear not to sleep except at downtime, which would imply either botting or account-sharing, but it's quite hard for you to do that by yourself since you also require sleep.

The successful scammer won't be spending all their time pressing up-arrow and Enter - they've got to set up bogus contracts or Margin Traded deals, talk to marks, shill on second accounts, or whatever. It still strikes me as pretty boring but each to their own.

I'd _like_ to see some kind of enforced restriction on posting substantially similar messages over and over, myself.

Botting isnt hard to detect whatsoever.

When I attended fanfest a few years ago, the devs showcased a few of the anti-cheat tools they used, along with a short Q/A session. Obviously they cannot watch everyone at all times, but if someone is botting, they WILL get caught.

Afk mining or mission running is allowed since it creates targets.

Botting anything is not allowed but also creates targets.

Ohhhh I just had a delicious Idea! Let CCP flag bots with bounties and let everyone else know who they are.

Officially...

Seems pretty clear.

Botting is not allowed. See it, Report it. Dont expect an instant ban on the person and CCP does an investigation on the player.
