Hello everyone, first off, let me apologize if this is the wrong forum. I looked for a new player forum but didn't see one. I tried EvE a while ago and liked it but was occupied with other games, now I've returned to give it another ago. I'm obviously not very far along, what should I be doing first? Suggestions and tips welcome :)

There is a New Citizens forum here. Take a look at this and then peruse the topical subforums under the Gameplay Center header. There is a plethora of informative posts there for all kinds of pilots.

Fly smart, and good luck. o/

Hi dee hey, hi dee ho! Don't let the Goonwaffles recruit you. Do the tutorials...all of them. THEN...use your imagination.

Paradise is like where you are right now, only much, much better.

If anyone offers to double any in-game money you send them, they're probably an extremely wealthy Nigerian prince in real life!

if a corporation demands ISK to join THEY ARE SCAMMING YOU!

Have a thick skin. the trolls are plentiful and they like to bite on the forums.

1: Don't train mining (ever) waste of sp, horrible income
2: Do the tutorials to get some basics down, do some missions and get more basics down while you focus on frig training
3: Get frig to 5 in some race (probably minmatar, but any will do), train stealth bomber, and go ratting in nullsec solo. Decent early income, and less boring than missions.
4: Other stuff, wormholes, pvp, whatever, don't race to battleships

Above all though, find a decent corp to join. If a corp you are considering recommends missioning and mining, don't join.

Google the following...

Wensley rifter guide - don't have to choose rifters but gives pointers on general PvP and safety (awareness of hostiles) in low security.

ISK guide 3.0 - big shiny PDF with a broad overview of what sort of careers you can pursue.

Read and learn at your leisure, don't get overwhelmed. If this game had a comprehensive manual to read before you get started you would never undock. There are some good wikis out there too but bear in mind info can go out of date with game changes.

General advice would be to try a variety of things out before worrying about specialising. While you will understandably only get a small insight into each 'career' or playstyle, you at least get a taster and overall a better understanding of the game. Save the min/max stuff for when you know your interests.

Hello and welcome back!

First of all, please let me move this post to a more appropriate section.

Second, I agree with Lady Spank that the ISK Guide is a must-read; in addition, the New Player section on the EVElopedia has a lot of useful information for beginners.

Don't be afraid to experiment and fly safe!

I recommend flying dangerously.

In addition, if you are interested in PvP, google agony unleashed and give one of their courses a try. I always wish I had done that with my first 10mil

Contrary to what has been said above, DO acquire at least some mining ability. It will provide a modest semi-afk income on those occasions when you would prefer be watching tv or reading a book rather than devoting all your attention to EVE.

Eh. It can work, but if you don't want to be serious at mining but want passive income, planetary interaction is a way better option.

If anything, your post is the troll.

Any income, however modest, is better than none at all. I'm completely baffled by the constant tirade of abuse against mining in these forums. Even as a new player, it's blatantly obvious to me that without mining NOTHING else would be possible in EVE.

True, but passive is income which happens while you're not even logged in. You can do that AND mine semi-afk.

What I'm talking about is a modest income you can achieve at times when you are able to log in but don't want to be tied to your keyboard.

And what better way to make isk while trolling the forums than mining?

At any rate, do what is fun for you. I've been a pvper in all the games I've ever played, so it's really no surprise that I'm a pvper here :). I love it.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia
