What Happened to Station Ambiance?

I'll start with a link (click)

It might just be me, but does it feel as though the stations are a bit sterile and maybe a bit untouched by the human factor as far as ambient audio is concerned? (In before "EVE has sound?") I always imagine the stations as being a bustling metropolis, the buzz of human activity reverberating throughout the entire station (open markets, clubs, etc). Especially from the CQ, I think that maybe we should be able to hear noises similar to a busy harbor, freight from ships moving (and being dropped occasionally), docking managers using the intercoms to announce various activity, and probably the occasional pre-recorded security messages.

Each station too should have it's own flavor, kind of how the ambient sounds/noise was done for the planets in PI (I have been known to turn the volume up way loud and just meditate to the PI ambiance). I can almost envision each docking area from the CQs....Caldari would be like a high-tech 1984 (ref the movie) city in space, with military reports, high-security, etc. Gallente would probably be like LA from Blade Runner, heavy with advertisements and human activity. Minmatar would undoubtedly have the residual pulse of music flowing through the station, much more haphazard, things constantly falling or breaking, maybe a bit of crime (gunfire, etc.). And lastly Amarr, I think they would definitely broadcast prayers and such, daily sermons, etc. I just like the idea of melodic chanting echoing through the vast golden interiors.

But going back to the video I posted at the top; the station environments don't change the way they are now if the station/system is under a Sansha incursion...I don't feel oppressed or worried or anything relaxing on my space-couch as it is.

Visually too, I think that it'd be a nice touch to see other ships flying in the dock background we see from our CQ, maintenance ships/drones, civilian and other ships (maybe limit it to frigates and shuttles, or shuttles only(and of the race that the current station is)) passing by. And in the cases of Incursions it'd be kind of creepy to see security ships/drones, maybe groups of civilians flying by at higher speeds, maybe occasionally tailed by smaller Sansha ships or something.

Thoughts, opinions? While I'm waiting for ship spinning to come back, I think too maybe we should voice ideas to make CQ and WiS a more enjoyable experience. Because if WiS isn't going to open it's door soonish, and we're stuck with chillaxing on our space-couches or hanging by the space-balcony, I think we should have more ambiance. And it's not like the devs couldn't just dust off some of the delicious old sound files from the game (does anybody remember the Quafe adverts?)

Correct me if I am wrong but station ambience (audio) turns itself off after awhile because ppl complained about, "station ambience".

Go figure.

Please dont encourage CCP to spend any more time on the inside of the stations then they already have.

Eve is about the spaceships, which never have, nor ever should, be allowed to be flown inside the station.

Undock, its far more fun. :)

You expect the Amarr to give you anything better than the slave quarters?

It didnt turn itself off but you could toggle audio off/on to shut it up.

The only problematic one was the Amarr chanting which was a bit much.

Well I suppose one way to balance the issue would be to have expansive ambiance at the space-balcony and once you pass the dock-CQ door, the ambiance changes to the standard, so if you want to escape the noise of the station you just go and watch the main screen or something.

I have reported both of you for being racist.

Ambiance was replaced with a door or a closet, your choice of immersive content.

I do miss the Amarr chanting. Sometimes I would leave the client running just to go to sleep with the chanting in the background. The door and the closet just don't do it for me.

The chants are the heaviest reason as to why I don't even travel into Amarr space. Gives me flashbacks of being an altar boy... Shocked

I'd like to hear some ambiance, I suppose, but if I were cooped up in my quarters I'd prefer some degree of silence. Who would want to listen to some fools crash freight around when you're trying to sleep or hear a bunch of Amarrians sing while you're on the can?

No way, man. Get real.

@Arctur: What's this about space-toilets? Anyway yes, there would have to be some balance, so maybe the balcony would have the most ambiance, the actual quarters though would get some of it, but very muffled. But still, with out the ship spinning part, I miss a ambiant station environment that sounds alive.

If you stand out on the balcony you hear quite a bit right now, at least in Minmatar stations. Some of the announcements are fairly entertaining as well, although I can't quite make out the one about signed autographs. I do miss the war time feel of a station under an incursion. The air raid sirens were pretty cool but I guess some people tired of them.

The ambient sounds inside the quarters themselves are very well done but are much quieter than the busy spaceport feel of the balcony.
