Best Minmatar ship for solo PVP?

Hi guys,

Technically I'm not a new player but a returning player. However I haven't played for about 8 years (I was lured back by Alpha state, well played CCP..), and upon logging in I feel like a completely new player. I have forgotten so much about the game.

Anyway. I was never a long-term player, probably around six months judging by my skill points. But I used to do solo PVP and sometimes small-gang PVP in low sec. I want to do this again (and I'm pretty much obliged to do this again because of my sec status), but I have some questions.

I have been reading stuff here and there, and one thing that comes up a lot is that the Rifter is no longer very good. This was the main ship I used to use. Either that or a Rupture. Tried a Stabber a few times, and even a Hurricane (but it was too slow and didn't work out well for me!).

So I suppose my question is this. Is the Rifter no longer viable for solo PVP? What nerfs did it receive? In my case, as someone only trained in Minmitar ships, what would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

PS. I should probably add that I am planning on sticking to Alpha for a week or two until I have more time to play. Having so many of my skills blocked makes me sad and I feel I have to upgrade. Again.. well played CCP..

I'd recommend a breacher.

Here's an example fit to get you started: https://zkillboard.com/kill/57650873/ (dude is a good solo pvper)

That's a T2 rocket scram-kite version. Downgrade modules as necessary while you're an alpha.

Excellent range control in scram range (10 km) with the dual webs. Against short-range opponents, orbit at 7-8 km or so. Against long-range, orbit at 500m to mess up tracking. Blap blap, win!

Beware MWD kiters, you'll have a hard time catching them.

Welcome back!

It's not that the rifter has been nerfed, more that all the other tech 1 frigs have been buffed massively and are for the most part viable for solo.

For me the 2 best minmatar t1 frigs for solo are the slasher and the breacher.

This is an alpha friendly version of my favourite slasher fit, you want to orbit close using the td to ruin your opponents tracking and using faction emp, phased plasma or fusion depending on the target.

[Slasher, Alpha TD]

Damage Control II
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste

1MN Y-S8 Compact Afterburner
Balmer Series Compact Tracking Disruptor I, Tracking Speed Disruption Script
Fleeting Compact Stasis Webifier
Faint Epsilon Scoped Warp Scrambler

200mm Light 'Scout' Autocannon I, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
200mm Light 'Scout' Autocannon I, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
Small Knave Scoped Energy Nosferatu
200mm Light 'Scout' Autocannon I, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S

Small Projectile Burst Aerator I
Small Projectile Collision Accelerator I
[Empty Rig slot]

And this in an alpha friendly version of the standard dual tanked breacher, this is a lot more flexible as you can engage at the edge of scram range or up close depending on what will be most effective against your opponent, and again varying your ammo based on your opponent.

[Breacher, Alpha Dual]

IFFA Compact Damage Control
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste
Ballistic Control System II

1MN Y-S8 Compact Afterburner
Fleeting Compact Stasis Webifier
Medium Ancillary Shield Booster, Navy Cap Booster 50
Warp Scrambler II

'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Inferno Rocket
'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Inferno Rocket
'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Inferno Rocket

Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I
Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I

Acolyte I x1
Warrior I x1

Both of these fits make use of tanking modules that weren't in the game last time you played, ancillary shield boosters and ancillary armour repairers. I won't go into too much detail about these but one tip I'll give is that when you first undock with one of these modules fit, right click your ancillary shield booster and make sure auto-repeat is sett to OFF and when using an ancillary armour repairer, right click and make sure auto-reload is set to OFF, this will maximise the effectiveness of these modules.

Good luck!

+1 to the TD Slasher. My Alpha alt holds his own in his: https://zkillboard.com/kill/57646013/

I've been surprised how far <1m SP goes actually.

Also, the Rifter is not a terribad MWD/Arty kiter now. It's not the best, but you'll get plenty of fights. If you want to bait plexes in it, tonnes of brawlers will warp in to their doom, whereas no-one would warp in on a Slicer or Condor at range.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I decided to try MashXX's Slasher fit. After spending ages getting my alt to Jita, fitting a cargo transport, buying all the stuff, and moving it to my main, I finally set out. After around two hours of not finding a fight I warped to a moon and ended up getting blown up by some kind of player base.

Not exactly successful but.. I'll give it another go!

Try roaming FW space for good frigate fights. Sit inside a novice plex, where only t1 or faction frigates can come in, or find others inside them. You can even join FW and make some decent isk while you're at it. It shouldn't take too long to find a fight.

This is a signature.

It has a 25m signature.

No it's not a cosmic signature.

Probably.

Btw my corp's recruiting.

Warping to moons is a bad idea xD but yeah. The above is a sound idea, though try to look for systems that aren't too busy so you don't get too overwhelmed or blopped at the gate.

Orbit inside the Plex and set your dscan to 1.au and spam it whilst watching local, you'll get fair warning of any targets warping to the gate and be able to warp of before they land if you don't like your chances. And yeah, offensive plexing is also extremely profitable if you can get good rates .
