Well, the game is quite old and in parts still stuck in the olden days when interefaces were not responsive and designed for internet explorer 4 @1024x768. That number got bigger over the years, and the interface got a matte finish, but for the most part it stayed the same.

Thing is, even though the interface gets criticized every now and then, most people just live with it. I don't know how long you've been around, but if you know CCP and the Eve community, you can probably imagine the shitstorm if they were to implement a major interface revamp to bring it into the year 2016.

i am not asking for a revamp just an option to scale it down farther than 90%.

Actually I'm with you on this, I'd definitely like to be able to scale it down further

I feel like this is somewhat a PC/TV issue? Why is your resolution so low. I'm on a 40" 1080p TV and I push 1920 x 1080. I came from a 32" with much less resolution, so, I feel your pain, but this is just kind of the way things are going.

CCP seemingly forgot that 720p is actually a thing... see: character sheet.

ok i play on a 50 inch 1366x768 TV

my main issues as labeled in the picture is"
1. There is no option to "Scale Down" the UI, there is just not enough free space for me to not feel clustered.
Everything is always in the way to the point of me having to sacrifice things i want on my UI to make it comfortable

2. When I am in a combat ship with my fittings, they are so big they overlap my inventory, and i cant see my inventory very well and have to squish it up against the wall of my ui.
(meaning i have to tetris things all over to get it to be comfortable)

4. Once again I cant scale down my chat and I almost have to have it extend it to the top of my screen just to keep an eye on the local channel, why can't the char portraits be smaller? its quite bulky and i can hardly fit more than 4 lines of talking in chat when I want to see the rest of my ui on the left of the screen. (lowest chat size setting enabled too)

1. I'm with you. The problem is that EVE always has an information overload to produce errors which will result in PVP. Eve could be streamlined a lot but it would stop a lot of PvP. And Eve is made for computer monitors so there is a natural limit in scaling down things. Your setting is just our of the range for which EVE UI is created. IMHO it would be a good thing anyway to make the UI scaling more flexible. If you can scale to 90 or 200% it shouldn't be too difficult to make it scale continuously.

2. use the simulation menu to create a fit and save it. Then you can fit the ship using that save. It's much more economical then using the inventory. Missing modules you can replace by other modules out of the inventory or buy them. But you are right that there should be an inventory button to the fitting screen.

4. You can eliminate the pictures in the local chat altogether by using "compact member list" in the member menu and "text only" in the channel settings

Was away from the game, came back just before alphas with a new trial. Realized the UI was so bad that if I stick around, it won't be because of the spaceships. The entirety of the UI muffles situational awareness. Makes the game more difficult through bad software rather than through player skill. When you think about it in regards to default settings and window positions of a newbie: "you can't even learn how to play this game unless you already know everything there is to know about this game" it's ridiculous and boils down mostly to the UI. EVE's UI could be used as a case study to teach programming students how to NOT do a UI. Being so defensive of your settings folders in a game was never a normal thing, not even back in the 90's.

Maybe CCP tried dropping below 90% back when scaling was being tested and found it to be too poor in quality to make it work and still be legible even on lower resolutions. I could be wrong, but I've noticed Eve's scaling gets awfully blurry specifically at 90%, though it might not be so bad if you drop resolution. Admittedly, I've never played Eve in anything less than 1920x1080, so that might not be the case given the circumstances. Either that or maybe the UI does weird crazy **** when set beyond current thresholds, causing it to break or become more buggy than it normally is. Who knows?

No question the UI could use more range of customization for the various types of users, their individual preferences, and their systems. I try, when I can, to give CCP the benefit of the doubt when it comes to Eve: this game is old, only getting older by the minute, and is made up of various components and subsystems that are in varying degrees of design, development, and modernization. Some parts are brand new, some several years old or more. Technical hurdles and "stone walls" are bound to exist around virtually every corner. This, like so many other cases, might be one of them. Sometimes I wonder just how the hell CCP manages to even do as much as they do and not break more **** in the process and without going so bat-**** insane that they kill each other in all honesty.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

CCP let me have two clients logged into the same character. My dream for EVE is to be able to have my ship flying on a giant TV while my main monitor is filled with the spread sheets.

Thats the exact resolution of my laptop screen but i have mine set up different.
I close out of chat unless i need it. Close oppurtunities,
Right click neocom and turn on autohide unless im doing co I close my holds completely. Cargo open when i expect to need it. Or ore hold. I keep them sized for 1-2 items and use that compact option. Cuts down alot of the clutter, but i mess withnit now and then looking for a better set up. I havent even used the ui scaling yet.

Itd be nice if minimizing left a small sliver in the corner rather than make them dissapear completely. You vould have everything you need open and just switch it as you need it.
I have zoom hotkeyed to page up and down when im using the laptops track pad and not a small mouse,
Itd be cool if you could hot key to minimize like double/triple right click. Then just click the tab and bring them up.
But i guess you could arrange your neocom with most of your important stuff.

you play on a 50" tv, and you are running on of space? huh.

I have 3 monitor setup, i can wither drag my clients to it fills all 3 monitors, or i do what i am doing and play on each monitor.

1 monitor is 22" wide scree, second is a 32" tv that i stopped using as i upgraded the living room tv. and i have an older 20" monitor.

hit esc and set your client to 'window mode' then adjust the resolution. You should have no issues gaining more space, hell i did when i shifted to a 32" screen and my res is about the same as yours.

That or after nearly 13 years in eve, i just got really good at managing my ui. but your screen looks fine to me. adjust your postion on you tv and you should be fine

What EVE really needs is an ASCII renderer, so we can play it from the terminal console, like real men (and women)

The new character sheet is probably the biggest offender, having two vertical lists stacked on top of each other with no way of splitting them up is a nightmare.

And no, poor interface design shouldn't be excused with "just get a bigger monitor".

I share your pain. I'm playing at 1280 x 1024 so not quite as dire as your scenario.

Make sure you try toggling the side-panes of the fitting window. On the left you have "Skins" and "Browser" (the hexagonal "yin/yang" and the spanner) on the right you have "Attributes (the three rows of bar chart). With them both collapsed the fittings window is a square barely bigger than the fitting circle.

You can collapse the inventory tree using the little triangle in the top of the right-hand pane.

You can filter modules for fitting, and change the inventory to "details" mode so you can see a small icon and the module name.

You're discriminating against the LGBTI+ community by not including real gays, trannies etc. I suggest you post your iRL information so that a bunch of tolerant people can lecture you on equality.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!
