with the advent of alpha clones, I decided to revive my old character who never went beyond trial. to my surprise, he was renamed to this. I am assuming, they do this on inactive characters to keep the names available for new players? is there a way to get the old name back?

That is a question for a GM. They don't tend to read the forum. A ticket will help.

If you take all the sand out of the box, only the cat poo will remain.

They wiped out the inactive character names ONCE, and they announced it ahead of time. It's not an automated periodic process.

You need to create a support ticket and they'll flag your character for name change at the next log-in. Don't forget to put in the ticket that you need your corp name changed too.

They also censor unsavory/offensive names. You should be able to rename it.

a funny thing happened. so I decided to keep the citizen # name, chose not to contact the support about it.
and voala, my name was changed back to the old without me doing anything, other than writing in this thread about. I wonder how it happened? a GM saw this thread and showed an initiative? they have a system in place where you get your old name back once you start playing again?

edit: what is even funnier, my name in game is the original one, my name in forums when quoted is the original one, but in threads on the left under my avatar I see the citizen # name.

If nobody has taken the name then it'll revert to what it was in-game on (IIRC) the next DT.

Sounds like the process doesn't work too well with forums & (I'm presuming) Eve Gate.
