What if This new voiced Tutorial was expanded through new missions?

I liked the new tutorial a lot. The NPCs little story was nice and for the first time i really felt i was part of Minmatar/Gallente/Caldari/Amarr.

So i thought to myself "what if they extended this kind of narrative to missions?" Idk if the voice acting cost you a lot of money but it was a shot in the right direction.

If we had a huge story arc for each faction it would surely make us enjoy more the universe and what happens there besides shooting others in the face.

Something to consider in the future....

The problem is they would need to be scripted stories - the voice actors lines would never change. First time through is great fun but it gets pretty boring after you've run the mission a dozen times. When you engage other players, it plays out differently every time.

CCP has been experimenting with enhanced AI over the past year or so - the burner missions, drifters and now the NPC mining fleets. We can hope for missions or events featuring procedural AI in the not too far distant future but it's unlikely the human voice actors will be involved beyond the new player tutorial.

You are right, PVE missions, no matter how much voiced they are, tend to be boring after hundreds of times doing them. Still it would help create more lore about EVE for players who like Lore and immersion.

Btw i'm not asking for better rewards, NOT AT ALL.

At first i thought the same thing "would be amazing if everything was more like this" and i still do, but on a different scale.

I played way back, even found another account i had back in 2005 when i tried to create a new one to do the NPE. Both times i only played for a short while, other games, life... so when i came back to try the "free" i find i have 17 mill on my character, that's chump change now, and for all intent to me I'm a new player.

I went through the old Aura and Opportunists on a new character on my old account, to orientate before playing my old toon and not until i saw a video did i know there was voice over NPE story driven one. I was rather disappointed i could not get the NPE on my account. So... made another account and gotta say the NPE really brought the universe to life for me. I wished the whole game had more, but at times because I'd literally just went though the old way, there were moments i preferred the old one, with the "just get to it" approach.

What i think would be ideal is to continue the NPE tutorial style with a very large over arcing story, one you pick up again and again after new milestones are meet as you naturally progress in EvE. These goals would be an amazing carrot to inspire players to continue to progress towards these goals of unlocking more lore / story. Then add a bit more to every expansion for these type of players to look forward to.

Before i mined, and mined and mined some more, made some isk, did missions, explore and i absolutely loved doing those activities, loved it, loved it, loved it. But you know sometimes you just wish there was something after i achieved x amount of mining whatever, or a certain amount of isk, or my umpteenth mission, then you progress the story, then get back to playing EvE again until the next milestone is meet to unlock more lore.

SWTOR tried that one. The first medium-group PvE you do (Black Talon/Esseles flashpoints) have a lot of voice acting. Most of the people running them have seen them so much, they say "just spacebar it."

Full voice acting was most of the point of that game.

They could keep it interesting-ish by having multiple voice samples for a given line and randomizing which one played.

When I first came to this game I wanted to tell everyone how much better the game would be if they just did X, Y, and Z to make PvE better.

Later I came to the realization that this game was intentionally not a: linear, scripted, themepark MMO like so many others. It is a sandbox with an extreme focus on player to player interactions. IMHO there are already too many people trying to hide out in high sec and solo this game in starter corps as it is.

If anything I would caution against making the PvE too engaging. IMHO the NPE should be there to introduce you to the most basic aspects of the game only. From there I feel new players should be out engaging with other players. One thing that I feel could help is if CCP introduced a way for players to offer to answer some questions one on one with another new players. So you could volunteer to be put in a queue to be matched up with a new player that has some questions. To me something like that would be better than scripted tutorials.

I like the concept of story arcs with voice overs.

like in any other mmo, cut scenes will be annoying and a 'waste of time' when seen repeatedly. people will just skip it and will ask for this option if not available.

The Amarr voice actor has THE BEST voice and enunciation. Really sounded like I imagined Amarr officials would. The other FC's sounded meh; the Amarr was awesome.

Anyway, the biggest issue with the tutorial that came up in Rookie Help was that Aura would get stuck if you do what she asks but NOT in the exact way that she's asking. For example if you open the station panel instead of clicking the specific inventory window that she's pointing at, or if you return fire when NPC's attack you and don't wait patiently for Aura to finish speaking.

So my point is that voice-acted Career Missions would probably make this issue worse.

The Amarr VA was awesome. Haven't done the Minny version, and probably won't. But yea, the Amarr VA sucked me in, even though i did him second.

Would love to see it on special missions like epic arcs. Hopefully that's the plan Smile

I love Naryu Virian. The first time I encountered her in Narsis, I thought, "what's a little skullduggery when the person you are being manipulated by sounds so damn nice?" Then when I saw her in Fort Amol I anticipated the missions to come.

Now, on my eighth playthrough of this questline, I find myself wondering now long is it going to be before Zenimax releases Vvardenfell. I am bored of Naryu now. Please make this stop.

Good voice acting and scripting can really enhance an adventure game. Anything else ruins the experience. Even then, there are limits to how many times we can have the impossibly handsome mission agent tell us about the saboteurs we need to intercept, before we turn off agent voices and just click through the dialogue.

Now pardon me while I go listen to Hannah Fry talking about Secret Santa for the hundredth time. She's a great presenter, but I melt for her voice.
