New player. Finished Tutorial... now what?

So. I finished the neat little fight involving the Hive for the group (faction?) I chose. But I'm sad to see it then forces you to get rid of the ship you were given, and drops you off without actually giving you directions to go into. I'm absolutely lost.

I was given a free mining ship. Which is cool I guess. But I'm not exactly where to go. what to do. where to go to USE the mining... etc.

Also: Am I able to re-take the picture for my captain that's currently set as my avatar picture? If so. How do I do that?

Long story short is. I felt like I knew what I was doing up until I was completely abandoned by the tutorial system... Which sounds... sad. A little direction would go a long way!

The whole point is that you can do whatever the hell you want. Like mining? Go mine! Like watching your wallet increase? Trade or do missions! Like production? Get into industry!

Eventually you'll likely want to get into the pvp aspect of Eve. For this, there is FW, which is good isk and low requirements, or nullsec or wormhole space. You'll want some way to make isk while you lose ships, but basically- you do what you want.

I greatly recommend joining a corp though. Find a decent sized, active corp involved in the same activities you like to do. Try out a bit of everything though before making up your mind.

This is a signature.

It has a 25m signature.

No it's not a cosmic signature.

Probably.

Btw my corp's recruiting.

What? The new tutorial (with the hive) directs you to Career Agents and even shows you how to find them.

Do the career agents, they will show you the basics of some paths you can take later on.

If you somehow missed the last part when Aura explains the Career Agents to you, you can find them by F12 > Career Agents, and "set destination" on the agent you want to start with.

Okay, two things:

1. Your ship is actually quite "disposable." Treat it as you would a modular tool that can be enhanced and modified with the right equipment, but can otherwise be replaced for if you break it.
In EVE, a ship's bonuses are tied to your character. This means you can buy 5 or 6 of the same type of vessel and they will all more or less be the same.

2. Welcome to the "Sandbox." They game will not tell you what to do, merely allow you to do "you."
I recommend you learn the base mechanics of the game and interact with others players as it will take you further than any amount of equipment, money, or resources.

You can warp to an asteroid belt in a star system and begin harvesting the rocks you find.

Note that some rocks will be more or less valuable based on the demand for them on the market (which is entirely player driven).

If you can't find any rocks in the star system you are in, it means others have already harvested them and you will need to look in another system.
Note that the further you are from populated areas, the greater the odds you will find more resources that may be of higher value. But beware, it is easier to be singled out by other players in less populated areas.

Finally; mining is one of the less profitable ways to earn money. Think of it as a "minimum wage" activity that holds minimal risk** and input on your part (see: it isn't very interesting work).

** Regardless of where you go or what you fly, there is ALWAYS risk in EVE. Even the most mundane work in the game is subject to player-on-player conflict in some form. It is your responsibility to find ways to mitigate risk.
That said... don't worry too much. Your character is immortal and you have nothing to really lose this early in the game.

Dock in a station, go to the station control panel (should be on your left) and there should be an option to "resculpt" your character.

Refer to this chart:

http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/wtd/

What on there do you find most appealing?

Find what you may want to try and go do it. Find others like you to learn from them and enhance yourself.
If you don't like it, move and and try something else. Find others also doing it and learn from them. Rinse and repeat.

It is the players that give this game its true character. Don't assume the game will do things for you or give you direction. Blink

Just to add what Shahfluffers and the others said. Eve is not only a sandbox, but in Eve the Players are the content. Unlike other MMO, devs don't spend 6 months or more creating new content that top guilds rush through in a few days, then get bored. Other Game Devs specifically create content in a way that limits player action, and if players use content in an abberant way, devs automatically nerf that behavior.

In CCP devs create tools, that players exploit in every possible way. Devs only step in and create limits if the exploits violate the EULA, otherwise everything is go. Hilmar specifically gave an example in the 2013 keynote citing the original concept for miners did not include what we call jet-can mining. But instead of shutting down that gameplay option, devs let it continue, even though messed up all their timetables.

Eve is about emergent gameplay. Players that "get" eve are players that solve problems. If you see a problem and think, "Ok, that's a problem, how can I solve it." Then you will go far in Eve. If you want the game to solve your problems, or the game to provide you content, then you will find Eve not a rewarding experience at all.

I highly recommend watching this speech by Hilmar. It gives a great insight into exactly what kind of Game Eve is, and what kind of Dev environment that CCP provides for the players.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

as has been stated Eve is a sandbox designed around player created content. Which means we are the content.

A fair amount of discussion went into the topic of the NPE as they have been developing it and trying different stuff out. One of the main issues is that at some point you will be left all alone in the universe to make your own way. If CCP does too much hand-holding in the beginning it give a false impression of what the game is. Then when the player finally is left all alone it will be so dramatic and sudden that they are almost certain to leave based purely on shock.

So go ahead with the career agents and the SoE epic arc and the other stuff that has been mention here but be aware that at some point you will need to find your own way. Now finding your own way can and likely will mean find other's to do it with or against but it still falls you to find your own way.

There is no deep and engaging PvE in this game. There is no end game content. There is no structured anything in this game. No queueable anything in this game. If you want something to happen in this game you have to make it happen.

There are plenty of groups out there doing things that you can join in so it's not like you have to work out every last detail but you do have to go out and find those groups and get involved with them.

So play around with the UI. If in doubt right-click is a good motto for this game. One time while you are sitting in station you probably want to play around with all of the menu icons on the left side of the screen and explore all the sub-menus within them to see what is out there.

Also uncheck " show only available " in the market settings and use the market to browse what is available in game as far as tools for you to work with.

Try different stuff out. Find our own playstyle. Then begin looking for like-minded individuals do play with.

Go do the career agent missions. They are an extension of the tutorial. They will tell you how to do industry, trading, Please missions and you will get new frigates from doing them.

To each their own. But there is a lot of very good information, tips, and tricks in the above posts.

Hi. Obligatory link for you: https://english.eve-guides.fr/images/wtd.jpg - or what one can do in EVE Online chart.

Generally, think of which of those you'd want to acomplish, then try to do that. Find something fun, something profitable, and something you would like as a long term in-game idea. Then go from there.

Basically, you're in the real game now.

Forget that little story driven hero mode tutorial thing, that's not EVE at all. Basically, you have no direction; in EVE, you have to create the content or follow others that do. It is a great game, but completely different than what that tutorial tries to do. Try things, find something you like, and go from there.
