Pure curiosity...

At what point, disregarding situations like "we did it for the lulz" and dumb situations where you undock at 4-4 with a CCP deal of 28 plex in your cargo, at what point does a freighter gank become an option? Equal cost of the ship, 1-ish billion isk? twice the value? three times?

And I'm not talking about specific items, just a bunch of random materials, no high value items, always warping to zero/no autopilot and of course... in high sec.

A quick and dirty calculation

I slapped together in eft a t1 fit alpha tempest (t1 gyros, t1 1400 guns t1 disruptor (no webs)) loaded with RF ammo and I got about 7000 alpha damage on the freighter hull (not that perfect skills)

Let's say the freighter has 180k EHP, it would take 180k divided by 7k = 25 battleships to do it. Cost of the fit let's say its in the 100 mil isk range, thus entire fleet will cost 2.5 bil isk. But, this is the bare minimum, you'll want extra for insurance, let's say 30 BS's putting your cost at 3 bil isk (btw, no insurance payout after crucible patch).

Now the freighter must DROP 3 bil isk stuff for you to break even. Worst case scenario (let's say 25-50% of the stuff drops) the freighter needs to carry 6-9 bil isk worth of stuff for the gank to be sure you break even.


Using BS's cuz I'm not that up to speed on the cost of tier3 battlecruisers.

Assuming all skills at V:

Obelisk EFT EHP v. RF Fusion: 195,621 EHP.

All Gank Tornado: 12,330 alpha.
* fit: 4x Gyro IIs, 8x1400 IIs, RF Ammo, PowerGrid rig, 2x3% damage implants, RF Fusion ammo
* pyfa cost: 87.7M

Num Ships Needed to Alpha: 195,261 / 12,330 = 15.8 or 16 Tornado Alphas.

Cost of Tornadoes: 16 * 87.7M = ~1,400M (or 1.4 billion isk.)

Ergo, break even for the gankers is around 2.8 billion isk. If we make a wild assumption that each gank ship wants to get 100M as part of their share, then the freighter needs to carry 1.4B*2 + 16*100M*2 = ~6.0B in goods.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.
