Ship spinning?

I keep seeing this from time to time. What is about? Is it just something about spinning your ship as a competition? It always seems to be something for fun but was taken away and now it is back. Sorry for the ignorance but I can't find what it is about.

Ship spinning is what you used to do, and can once again do \o/, while sat in station chatting, being camped in, waiting for fleets to form, etc. Simply check the 'Load Station Environment' checkbox on the right hand side of the Display & Graphics tab in the client settings menu.

CCP removed it when they tried to force us all into Captain's Quarters. Some rebelled and wanted good old ship spinning again and so it was kindly returned when the devs came out of their fugue and saw how upset we were.

Totally agree. Ship spinning is not about spinning your ship, as odd as that may sound. It's really about CCPs former and current directions in regard to EvE online. They removed a basic functionality, and put in some useless 'space barbie' expansion and expected players to like it. As evidenced, not many at all were happy.

This long and ongoing story is honestly a bit much for new players Q&A, but take what you will.

It is the central activity of eve and is open to all players regardless of SP or Ship. When the minigames of pvp, politics and pve become too stale, it's good that the game's core mechanic remains so strong after all these years.

I hope CCP is cracking down on ship spinning botters. Manual ship spinning should be the only ship spinning.

I'm new and so far ship spinning is totally cool. The Captains Quarters is a total waste and really has, in my limited EvE experience, no function.Big smile

Spinning ships in hangers has been a past time since 2003. Station camped? can't be assed to do anything meaningful but chat? waiting for orders to clear? Ship Spinning prime time.

I lied :o

I don't think it happens so much these days, but back when I started I had a few incidents where ship models would merge as I tried to leave one and board another. This lead to some unholy amalgamations sitting in the hangar space. I'm sure plenty of others had this at one point or another too.

Spin your ship around at least 10 times, then look at the bottom center of your screen. It takes 10 spins to activate it.

Oh, yes, this was like your own personal ship construction kit. Ever wondered how the offspring of a Vexor and an Iteron would look like? Those were the days!

I've disabled Load Station Enviroment because I'm playing on a laptop with poor graphics. Does that disable ship spinning?

(I know I can still spin if I do a Show Info and click the ship's "portrait", and then spin the resulting 3D view, but...)

Actually ship spinning is just a waste of time. As for those who say the CQ is a waste of time, it still has a lot more development left open for potential game play content. Besides that, the graphics are much better to watch compared to just a ship floating in the dock.

Yeah, I've had a few of those.

I did wonder about ship spinning, and what all the fuss was about. So after my first day in the game, I tried it, and I have to admit it is very therapeutic. I now often find myself unconsciously spinning my ship while dreaming of far of galaxy's. Bear

Watch out. Level 10 is the end game. That's why nobody is going above level 8, to keep doing all those side minigames outside the stations and hold on the ship spinning which is the core gameplay of EVE Online. Exploiters...

I think the best was the Tengu/Hulk. That ship can literally do anything except use a jump drive. PvE, PvP, Mining, nullsec hauling, probing, RRing, EWAR, and so much else; you name it and it could do it, lol.

I once got a Badger Mark II to merge with my Drake

It wasn't Pretty

Also, if EVE implimented achievements, the first one should be:

ACHIEVEMENT GET!
Empty Hangar
Spin your ship 10,000 Times

The captains quarters makes no sense. It's like a friggen jail cell. They should either expand it that you can interact with other people or just dump it. As it is, I rather ship spin!

Captain Quarters is the first step towards full blown station interaction planned for the future release.
