I was on steam for a bit last few days - wonderful tutorial(dying at the end was a nice touch). Then I hopped back on my Official version, and there was no tutorial to speak of.

Are they different, or did I get a dlc and not know it?

There is no difference between the two, other than login ... but you can get a login for your account so you can bypass steam.

Setting an account name for Accounts created through STEAM

The new tutorial only applies to newly created accounts. This is more likely what you are experiencing.

OK, figured it out.
the instructions are poor.
The actual procedure it to FIRST load up the browser (not the client) and at the bottom is an icon for steam. click that, and follow the instructions.

The link states the following:

Quote:

It is however possible to set up an account name and password for all Steam integrated EVE accounts through the Account Management pages.

Log into “Account Management” by selecting the green “Sign on through STEAM” button:

So after repeatedly logging in and going to account management, and finding nothing, I stopped and went back to the log in.
you have to log in with the button UNDER the ID/PW above. That will allow you to log in with your steam account, follow the instructions (including the steam guard if you have one - i do) confirming with your email that it is a steam account,

After all this is set up, you can then go to your account and add an eve ID, after whihc you will see it says "steam user".

They should clarify that page (I see it was updated November 2016).

In their defence, I have an ant-script runing and it blocked the images on the login page, so all i saw was a blue square and a green square (which is the steam button).

In conclusion, you CANNOT login to account management to create the EVE id, you have to follow the above process first.

ps
In reference to my original question, after I got that all settled, apparently I only have a trial account on EVE, I purchased the full boat on steam. that is where there is a difference. More goodies on the OMEGA? version.
