Feature Request: Scanner Agent

This is an idea we discussed in our corp, and we'd like to submit it. Many of us have a hate relationsship with the scanning process (for exploring). It's tedious, and often you find crap you don't want to find. It's not very realistic, since in RL you have scanners and drones that find specialized stuff more or less automaticly. In some way it's useful for the explorer in the aspect that pirates must also go through the same tedious process to find you when you're in there.

Anyway having a method to pay for skipping this process would be great. Let's say that we can supply some stations with scanner agents (In the same way as Locator Agents) that you can pay to find some class of objects on a space you define. The agent will then "look" for the objects, and you may let them use the same amunt of time that you would normally do with a ship without scanner bonus and little experience in scanning (so it cannot be used effectively for PVP).

On top of automation in general sucking, this feature would completely replace scanning and out compete noobs and poor players.
No. Soooo many times.

What you could do instead is pay players to do it for you. That way there is no automation, prices are dynamic and proportionate to the work.

I get what you mean, but the delay for agent scanning could be set to f.ex. twice the time it takes to do manually so it doesn't compete with normal scanning.

Scanning is child's play, it used to be a nuanced skill that made someone who had dedicated the time to getting competent at it a valuable asset to a good fleet.

Now it's so damn easy we recommend exploration as a starting career for newbros who can't tell their arse from their elbow.

No we definitely don't need scanning agents.

It's not that hard after some practice. Only boring and time-consuming.

If you want the cookies, bake them. If you're too lazy or bored with the process you didn't really want the cookies in the first place.

Or pay someone. Seriously.

Hauling is boring and time consuming. Mining is boring and time consuming. Missioning is boring and time consuming.

Should they become automated for a fee? **** no. Pay a player with more patience or whos time is worth less than yours.

So... 30 - 40 seconds?

--Gadget... just scanned you down

Edit:
And giving this to Mercs... this could override the locator agent by showing that someone is in space (so most likely logged on).
Unless you're suggesting the agent can't scan down ships or MTU's?

How is it time consuming? It takes maybe 5 minutes at most to scan every sig in a new hole with 10 unscanned sigs in it.

As someone who would use this for exactly that, this is a stupid idea.

After CCP took any and all challenge out of using probes, you want to make it even easier?

No. Try getting better at one of the easiest careers in the game.
