Alpha and Omega

I was surprised to learn you can't have an Alpha and Omega account logged in at the same time (and even more surprised when I closed my client and had to wait >5min before it would let me log in the other one!)

I get the idea of not wanting someone to have a bunch of Alpha clones logged in at once, that makes perfect sense. What I would like to see is the limit be set to 1 Alpha, and however many Omega's you want. Being able to have an Alpha logged in isn't big enough to be a major game changing event, especially with all the other limits placed on them.

In my case I was just going through my accounts to add stuff to Alpha skill queues, while trying to remain logged into a subbed account. But what if I was trying to get a roommate or gf into the game? I really sucks locking it down so when an Alpha is one no one else can be.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

From memory the decision for 0 rather than 1 was because 1 risks becoming the default.

It would be like the need to have off grid links before the links changes. If there is an advantage that can be gained by having an alpha and an omega logged in together, then anyone that can't or doesn't want to, is put at disadvantage.

In that case, it would be compulsory to have both and while free, it's still not something everyone can do.

That's what I recall of the discussion and decision in any case. May be totally off base.

Edit: This is really the same discussion as the similar thread on this page too. Didn't really need a separate thread.

I'd love to have free "eyes" to scout for me, provide price checks in all the trade hubs, web my freighter into warp, contract alt for haulers, etc... An Alpha "pet" would be required if it was permitted.

Multiple logins on 1 computer are not allowed if one of the accounts is Alpha - same restriction as trial accounts. However you could have 2 players on different computers login with trial accounts from the same location and I believe that also works for Alpha - but haven't tried.

Switching accounts shouldn't take any longer than usual but the infrastructure is getting a workout with player count over 50K - a bit of lag wouldn't surprise me.

In 13 years EVE has never allowed a trial account and paid account to be logged in at the same time.

Now that the trial is not limited to 14/21 days and is unlimited you want them to also allow something they specifically did not allow for 13 years?

I have not seen one reasonable argument for CCP doing that and no reason to do it.

Why would anyone want a permanently free, non-paid scout? Oh wait.

If you bring a roommate, it will not be on the same computer, and probably the lock is system-wide, not IP-wide.

It's never enough is it....

"waah all other games are f2p, why isn't EVE f2p"

- eve gets alpha clones

"waah why am I not allowed to have a free forever scout/hauler waaaah"

My dear OP a fair point, but you have to understand that multiple accounts has always been pay to win in terms of Eve.

I will only play Eve with two accounts because having one account makes you so much easier to kill, to be blunt it is one of the reasons so many casual players have turned their back on Eve. The people who prey on them have multitudes of accounts and so the casual player has to take risks like jumping blind through a gate into a gate camp or a bumping Macherial and they are bad at Eve because of that, who would have thought that... Shocked

When the going gets tough the Gankers get their CSM rep to change mechanics in their favour.

Why am I not suprised that someone posting that "I want more" nonsense is unable to post it in one of the already existing threads on page one of the forums?

We get free stuff - they want even more free stuff.
There already are x pointless discussions on the topic -> they have to make their own one because x threads are not good enough.

I wonder if that is really a pattern amongst those people?!

This has been discussed loads over the last few days. Giving every subbed player a free alt to follow them around would double server load and half resources for no extra income for CCP. Secondly there would be some issues with cloaky campers which others have already been over.

So no. And that's why.

You may want to go and check whether Alpha clones can use a cloak! RollShocked

17. Redundant and re-posted threads will be locked.

As a courtesy to other forum users, please search to see if there is a thread already open on the topic you wish to discuss. If so, please place your comments there instead. Multiple threads on the same subject clutter up the forums needlessly, causing good feedback and ideas to be lost. Please keep discussions regarding a topic to a single thread.
