100% agreed.

EVE is the same game as it was before the patch. An extended trial (which is exactly what alpha clones are) may bring a few extra people but the underlying issues involving retention haven't been addressed at all. The NPE is never going to matter, there's no way it can provide enough information to "make" a player. Resources have always been available to learn, the problem is that if a person isn't the type to seek and learn information without hand-holding, they're unlikely to make it.

Thanks to all the LAGLeers, it is a big number to me, even if it might seem small compared to many here.
Nonetheless I really appreciate it very much!

Called in some alt reinforcements to get you over 3000.

Cheers!
3K in the rear view mirror thank you so very much!
LAGLeers thank you!

Timezone o/

I think some people will stay longer than expected. Numbers like 40k would be ok with me for a year.

Exactly. My impression is that F2P is puting lipstick on a pig for ~reasons~. It is just an extended trial for noobs, the NPE hasn't been completed nor tested yet so it's hard to figure how could it impact retention even if it was a well conceived plan (which I don't think it is). And for veterans it's pointless, I've got PLEXes, I've got isk, I can return to the game anytime I want. But I don't want. I just take the forums for free and thank CCP for giving me EVE's full value for me at the moment.

So I can say: morning lovelies!

And get likes to 11,000 and beyond! Lol

There are a few to many issues in my opinion that will prevent EvE growing significantly and also probably stunt f2p's retention.

The most glaring issue will be the power creep of Faction Ships as opposed to T1 Ships. Faction ships simply crush their T1 counterparts and often are superior to their T2 counterparts. As such a new player will just keep dying and give up if they try the solo pvp scene.

Nullsec and Lowsec factions are generally uninterested in alpha recruitment as they can't fly doctrines efficiently. Only groups that will sniff at them will be Waffles, PH, Brave and Karma but the only one that will retain these people will probably be horde.

But after CO2 and Test evac next month most the content for these players will once more be gone and Northern Coalition will go back to ganking horde and these alphas will quit due to Titan imbalances. (Pre tribute war NC was openly attacking Horde. Big daddy PL halted that for this war.)

While Supers should be strong the relative power difference between a single super and their capital counterparts is to great. Which means the only counter to supers is more supers. This means any new alpha players are not going to impact this meta as cruiser and Gnosis numbers will mean nothing in a pitched battle.

And when they feel helpless, they wont bother.

Highsec also has some issues. I can undock in jita and kill anything smaller than a cruiser before the police kill me. Code. are heavily farming new alphas and reddit is full of confused alphas abput why concord is so slow. We understand why, alphas don't. So we lose alphas.

The new mining fleets for npcs. Their reinforcement frigates can warp in and deal 1000dps and the large ships more. They are over-tuned and will melt alphas. A challenge is always welcome but the rewards are not worth the risk for an alpha. Or an Omega tbh.

And no doubt mores issues.

But the only reason to play EvE is people you meet and it can be seriously hard to meet the right people in EvE. And unless you're useful to them they are unlikely to want to do anything but farm you for killboard stats.

Anywho.

A free trial (even of indefinite length) does not by itself make one an EVE player. At the risk of sounding supercilious, what makes individuals come back to EVE is not something the NPE can easily evoke. The game appeals to a specific attitude and mindset, which, while it can be induced over time, is best harnessed when already formed.

As such, the new "F2P" system merely widens the net - it will increase the game's numbers overall, but once the honeymoon period wanes, this 50k concurrent user count will drop sharply.

When I'm good I'm very good, but when I'm bad, I'm better.

That is in the theme of me being pop star.
But I cant even play or sing few notes right irl. 😭
Maybe I could play some doom or ambient with great difficulty.

Lets give EVE time. New players may bring more new players because of videos like these.

The problem is definitely not advertising.Right after Alpha/Omega clones were applied to the game,I saw tons of articles about EVE everywhere.I used to think this was the case but it isn't. I liken EVE to Dark Souls. Where other games give you a cookie,EVE takes your cookie away and laughs at you. I don't know about new players but I can't access to Aura tutorials anymore. Only "Advancing in EVE's Careers" window is available for me to use.Did they remove the tutorials or is it only available for new players now? My point is,not everyone likes extremely cerebral games. For example my sister and her husband. They play WoW casually and don't even care about maximizing their DPS by doing ability rotations in raids. When I asked them to try out EVE,they didn't like how much calculating and planning it required. They just want to have fun.

Making ISK is pretty damn easy. The hard part is keeping it and not spending all of it in a single day. Roll

Is richer he who earns 5 and spends 3, than who earns 10 and spends 9. Cool

Nighties lovelies!
