Why did I get war-dec'ed and what to expect?

Many people fly in Wormholes or Nullsec on a regular basis, where they can be attacked by anyone at any time, and they still manage to thrive. If you got wardecced, it's best to treat highsec as if it were nullsec, just without bubbles: Travel light, Keep an eye on local, be aligned and ready to warp out when making money in space, scout gates if you need to jump in something expensive, be prepared to get pulverized if caught. Don't assume you can hide from an enemy who wants to kill you, and don't assume your enemy won't hunt you down, even if they are known to just camp pipes and tradehubs - sometimes they may just get bored.

They're not griefers, and you're not being "griefed", OP. Griefing, in fact, is explicitly against the rules.

Eve has a fairly open set of rules with respect to PvP, wherein virtually everyone is "fair game". They are simply playing the game in the fashion they enjoy.

Generally speaking, it is healthier to handle wardecs in the same manner as severe inclement weather. Plan ahead, be prepared, accept that **** happens, and that there's no sense in being mad about it.

Agreed...I've played mainly solo for a few months now due to real life issues, and never really die. EVE is a game where hunting *anyone* is valid, so if you aren't part of a powerful group hunting, be alert and accept you're the mouse in a game of cat-and-mouse. Given the intel you get through the map, local chat and d-scan, it's very, very hard to die in HS if you're paying attention.

Yeah, I'm gonna call BS on both of you. Your replies are just more of the 'Smoke & Mirrors' propaganda crap that has caused a lot of players in the past to unsub. I don't care if you don't like or accept it but in the last 4 years Eve Online has turned into Grief Online. The CCP rule on Grief play is tough to prove, especially on those who use Role Play and Content Creation as an excuse for their actions.

I've been playing this game for over 8 years now and have watched the general mentality in-game turn from being helpful to being spiteful. Truth be told, there's no reason whatsoever for a large corp to WarDec a small one man corp that has no holdings in high sec other than to grief it, plain and simple. They know they can get easy kills since the one man corp isn't a threat and when it surrenders or disbands, it makes their corp history look good.

OP no one has answered the question why did you get war decced?
The answer is simple you exists and therefore you get war decced.

DMC pretty much covers the rest of the reasons so read his post.

BS, you are poisoned by the environment you are living in ... highsec. I know what I'm talking about, I'm residing there too, one can easily adopt a victim's attitude while playing there.

My recommendation, do what ever is necessary to deny the wardeccers content or reverse and take the content to them.

I'm my own NPC alt.

In the end, I decided I like trolling trollers too much. I have no emotional attachment to my one-man corp identity, and I couldn't care less what their war history looks like. (If I surrender and it looks good, who cares.) If I had any PvP experience, I'd go after them 100%.

But I don't, so I trolled back. I paid a simple 1.5 million to install a new corp and cost them 50 million with no financial gain to show for it. Does this scale? Probably not. But I'll worry about then when 50 corps war dec me at the same time. Even then, I honestly love station-trading in Jita. :)

Thanks for the thoughts everyone - much appreciated.

I've played mainly solo in WHs and NS for years and rarely die. Intel is very easy in this game, especially now that d-scan is bound to your keyboard. Sure there is no reason for a large corp to wardec a one man corp, but they can go right ahead. I just don't leave j-space or null for that week.

I'm not saying you don't have good points, but I don't consider it griefing. I think HS PvP has attracted a crowd that wants easy kills, both in terms of wardecs and ganking. There's nothing wrong with that. I don't enjoy that playstyle, so I rarely am in HS.

This is a pretty bad attitude for Eve and victim-like thinking really shouldn't be encouraged.

Exactly this.

I've decced a few corps.

When I was more active I was part of a small corp (~8 regular players) that would wardec comparable sized or slightly larger industrial-focused corps (typically 10-80 members), and hunt them looking for fights and loot. I would often fly logistics.

The most effective tactic against us was when people fleeted up in cheap ships and focused fire on one of us. We'd get lots of 10 million ISK killmails, and they might get one or two 500 million ISK killmails. Lots of fun fights on both sides, however, and those corps earned our respect.

The other effective tactic was to retreat to a temporary base outside highsec. We would follow, but we would not field expensive ships because you might have the capacity to escalate to capitals (and we did not). We would be less able to adapt to your tactics and it was just more effort to get a fight. Remember, as highsec aggressors, our goal is to get fights (and ideally loot) without extensive hunting and scouting.

Do you love to pvp? Then stay in your corp and expect them to find you.

If not, close your corp and make a new one. Then you only have to worry about loot thiefs or suicide ganker or marked scammer or mtu shooter or baiter ... Have fun. Bear

Since it costs 50mil to war dec a single-player corp, could I effectively reverse-troll them by constantly shutting down my corp and starting a new one every time they war dec me?

...OR you could grow a pair, get a PvP ship and go after them. Trust me, they probably wouldn't expect that and you go all psycho on them to teach them a lesson.

That is what I would do...
