Alpha and low-sec

Hi,

I spent some time this week mining in high-sec to get myself some cash (around ~18M isk so far). I checked mining in low-sec to spice things up. However, after checking eve-marketdata it looks like you are not making significantly more isk when mining in low-sec or even null-sec (everything is close to ~10M/hour). Only Mercoxit pays off significantly more but that's really on the high-end of dangerous. Is this correct? Is there an incentive for mining outside of high-sec? I haven't checked gas or ice mining yet.

Outside of mining, I was thinking of trying out low-sec with rat killing. For example with this fit:
https://o.smium.org/loadout/private/118501/7015883971993010176
for Gallente. Is that a good way to get started in low-sec? Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help and advice on moving from high-sec to low-sec.

TL;DR: trying to find a good way to get started in low-sec and looking from some isk opportunities in low-sec.

I can't comment on the mining part, as I usually steer clear of rocks. However, ratting in Lowsec can work quite well. However, the real money in that comes from Clone Soldiers, because they drop Clone Soldier Tags that you can sell for up to 20M a pop. However, you won't break them with an Atron. I've been able to kill them with an Algos on a fairly low skilled character, but that was quite difficult and risky. If you really want to go after those, you might want to bring a cruiser.

As long as you are aware that EVE is a PVP game, and lowsec does not have Concord police or all the special rules of engagement that high-sec has, sure. PVP'ers can find you via probing, so keep the d-scan window open and watch out for inbound threats.

To add to this, as op is Gallente, Clone rats can be handled with a Blaster Catalyst.

OP, lowsec living is not a PVE playground. If you came into my lowsec and started ratting in that, it would take me a few seconds to find you on dscan, and a few seconds more to leave your ship a smoking wreck before you even popped a rat. You want to go to lowsec, you have to learn PVP, even if the most you ever do with what you learn is avoid those who would make a meal of you. Send me a mail in-game and I will help you out when I'm on next. Yes, there is money to be made in lowsec. I run a DED 6/10 a week, sites that can drop modules worth a bil isk each. Four of those a month, and I'm plexed for the next quarter, or I'm plexed for a month and the rest is profit. Run more than one a week, when I'm extra bored or the PVP is a bit dry, and it's even more profit. But those sites are contested by players, and there's no concord in lowsec, so learning how to defend your claim is a must. Even better, learning how to take that claim from someone else, and killing their extra shiny PVE ship for some extra loots and extra profits.

If you want to kill clone soldiers do a bit of research and find the ones with the lowest resist to your damage type. As suggested above a Catalyst should be able to kill those in 0.4 and maybe 0.3 space with low skills. Below that is more dangerous because 0.2 clones web and 0.1 disrupt you, aside from doing more damage and having more tank.

I want to say Serpentis would be a good bet for thermal/kinetic, but double check me on that. Doing the right damage type will also speed up the process against normal belt rats.

If for some reason you really want to use a frigate, look at the incursus as the rep bonus and natural HP makes it a little tankier. You probably will not be able to break the clone soldiers without a friend though.

PS - What Remiel says is true about lowsec players and I would encourage you to learn about PVP. However, EVE is a big place and there are plenty of mostly empty lowsec regions where you can rat at certain times of day without much trouble. Just don't expect 0 losses so dump off your loot regularly.

Don't even need probes if they're in the belts or anoms. Dscan is enough.

If any ballsy Alpha clone miners want to try their hand at 'Ninja Gas Mining' in Low, all I'm handing to you on a plate is: 'Cytoserocin' + 'Low Sec' + Google = 'Dank ISK' from a new players PoV.

You need your racial Frigate skill to 4 to be able to scan the clouds down (Very small sigs) and you need to invest in an expensive skill book called 'Gas Harvesting', I think it's about 50mil o.O and strap those things onto a Venture. And the skill IS accessible to Alphas.

You'll need to watch D-scan for scanner probes in local while you mine, but I used to make >50mill per 'Bandit Nebula' back when I was new.

It's a good intro to Low Sec life.

PM me if your legit stuck, but not if you can't be assed to google it.

Not sure how you got your numbers, but you make a lot more than 10mil an hour mining in Null Sec (100+ if you are well skilled with boosts)

Are not Alphas limited to the Venture?
