Why did I get war-dec'ed and what to expect?

I just got an evemail stating I have been war-decced. I am a single-person corp (so I don't have to pay taxes to the default NPC corp.) This has never happened to me before.

I live in high-sec. I have no structures. I own no territory. My stuff is all in high-sec stations.

So what exactly is the point, and for how long can it go on? I assume I should probably keep a sharp eye out for war targets if I go out missioning? And perhaps this puts a crimp on me being able to start doing incursions (for the safety of the fleet?)

Is this someone who wants to trolling me, maybe because they saw somewhere on a forum I'm thinking about incursions?
Is now the time to spend a few weeks in my cloaky exploration clone making some money out in nullsec?

Would love advice on what to expect and what not to do. Normally I spend 90% of my time doing lvl4's in high-sec...

The point is to find you and to kill you. And if the want to pay enough it can go on forever.

Do you love to pvp? Then stay in your corp and expect them to find you.

If not, close your corp and make a new one. Then you only have to worry about loot thiefs or suicide ganker or marked scammer or mtu shooter or baiter ... Have fun. Bear

if it were me i would fly with an empty head and use cheap ships, set your overview to show your enemy and try to carry on as normally as possible. Some players leave corps while war decced, some sit in a station, Have fun :)

Since it costs 50mil to war dec a single-player corp, could I effectively reverse-troll them by constantly shutting down my corp and starting a new one every time they war dec me?

You can do that.

You can also pay some money and hire some allies to help you defend / actually attack them back in full force. Costs some ISK.

As suggested above you can avoid the wardec by leaving your corp.

Or stay in station for a week or two.

People wardec because they're bored and they're looking for action in a game that's supposed to be full of PVP. And actually they're looking for easy kills, cause otherwise they'd go to lowsec or null if they wanted real PVP.

You can deny them the action by avoiding the war, or deny them the "easy" by hiring competent allies.

EDIT: Or go fight. Lose a few ships, maybe have some fun.

EDIT2: Make an alt, inject some skillpoints, train the corp management skills, make the alt the CEO. I always suggest making an alt the CEO so you can leave corp with your main and still keep the corp.

The first thing to assess is: how likely are my war deccers to find me?

Break that down: 1. Look at their killboard.

2. Where are their kills? Do they travel? Stay in one area? Are they in areas you frequent?

3. What time do their kills take place? Do your game play times overlap? Are they 12 hours apart?

Another area to assess: War History

1. How many wars have they had?

2. Are they the aggressors? Or aggreived?

3. If they are the aggressors? Do their kills include NPCs? They may be specifically targeting pve players.

A Third area to assess: Ally Offers/Ransom Demands

1. Have you gotten ally offers dependent upon payment?

2. Are there surrender terms listed anywhere? Corp bios? Emails you may have received?

This may be an isk making opportunity on the war deccers part.

Once you've thought about the circumstances, you can make an informed choice as to what action to take. Whether that action is to fold your corp and establish a new corp, or go on about your business, or fight back.

As to why you personally were war decced?

Your war deccers noticed either you or your corp.

That is exactly what i do. Take a look at my corp history.

Cool. I'll take a look at your history.

Silly question - do they pay the 50 million at the time of war dec or do they pay it 24 hours later when the war goes live? If I shut down before the war goes live, are they still out the ISK or do they get some kind of refund?

They pay at the beginning. They're out the isk right now.

Thanks for the advice folks. Something confusing happened just now.

- When I resigned as CEO, it said the corp would go away, which is what I want. It then sent me a message that the corp surrendered to the war-deccers. Does that penalize me in any way?

Also, why can't I form a new corp? I filled in the details, paid the fee, and the fee was taken out of my wallet, but then immediately it was put back in full. If there is a timer, is there a way to see how much time is left on it?

They wardec'd my corp. Nobody was online at the time.

I'd have attribute the reason for the wardec to it being a Sunday. Ya, that probably was the reason.

Seriously, if you live in hisec long enough, you are going to get wardec'd for some good reason, or none at all.

I'll just keep on doing what I do, but a little more cautiously. If I lose some ships, or a whole lot of ships, I just hope there's a good story to tell, and a pretty explosion (apparently CCP updated those in Ascension). Keep in mind that I consider myself an industrialist.

I see you dropped-corp to an NPC corp. That's a bit extreme in my opinion. Good luck though.

Nope. The corp was closed, so the war ended.

Wait until after the next downtime, and try again.

This right here is what you should do. The alt character doesn't have to be on a second account, it can be one of the character slots on your main account. After the alt is CEO, just let it sit in station and go back to playing your main character. When your Corp get's WarDec, leave it and when the WarDec is over, just rejoin your Corp.

Large Corps that WarDec small one member Corps are nothing more than Griefer Corps looking to pad their KillBoard stats. They always look for easy kills which is why your one man corp was WarDec.

Just don't go in HS for a week. Wardeccing corps typically never follow people out of HS.

I'd take it the other way. Usually wardec corps have several wars running at a time. Figure out which of their targets looks least likely to be a pushover, and ask to fleet up. Offer to be bait or something, or use a cloaky, alts, and locator agents to run intel. Wardec corps really hate it when they lose.

This is a pretty bad attitude for Eve and victim-like thinking really shouldn't be encouraged.

They're not griefers, and you're not being "griefed", OP. Griefing, in fact, is explicitly against the rules.

Eve has a fairly open set of rules with respect to PvP, wherein virtually everyone is "fair game". They are simply playing the game in the fashion they enjoy.

Generally speaking, it is healthier to handle wardecs in the same manner as severe inclement weather. Plan ahead, be prepared, accept that **** happens, and that there's no sense in being mad about it.

Agreed...I've played mainly solo for a few months now due to real life issues, and never really die. EVE is a game where hunting *anyone* is valid, so if you aren't part of a powerful group hunting, be alert and accept you're the mouse in a game of cat-and-mouse. Given the intel you get through the map, local chat and d-scan, it's very, very hard to die in HS if you're paying attention.
