CCP, what precautions are you taking during the Olympics?

As we in the UK are about 190 days from our Olympics I thought I would raise the question to CCP about what precautions are you taking for continuity during this time?

Many of you will ask what has the Olympics to do with Eve?

Well as I understand it Eve is hosted at the Docklands in London. During the Olympics there will be extremely heavy internet traffic into and out of this area both local and worldwide and this could have an impact on Eve traffic if the backbones get overloaded.

Most people know, especially us living in the UK, that our broadband infrastructure is not shall we say ‘the best in the world’ and with many people using IPlayers, internet TV and other ‘catch up’ players the service could deteriorate to such an extent that lag on Eve could be a problem.

So CCP have you thought about the above, just asking?

I heard they have a strict training regiment for their power-supplying server-hamsters. Daily training, strict diets, stocking up on steroids, preparing for the blood doping...the usual pre-olympic preparations.

Internet providers will throttle use based on what's available. In short, Nerf the Olympic.

Don't know what you expect really, CCP aren't responsable for the infrastructure

That's somewhat of an understatement, our broadband infrastructure generally dates back at least 50 years. It is only relatively recently that the main player in the game, BT, started installing more up to date infrastructure, and even then they only did so due to competition from the likes of Virgin.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Yes CCP spend money updating Britain's ageing infrastructure off your own back even though it has nothing what so ever to do with you.

I think the OP hasn't thought this through.

I lied :o

Moved from "EVE General Discussion".

Blue Harrier, I've passed this thread to our operations team to see if they have any info to share on this subject.

UK is fine, it's your service that sucks, don't tar me with your brush of shame.

From memory, the UK backbone throughput is very high, especially in Docklands - if it's lower than 50 gb/s I'd be amazed.

As for congestion - ever heard of KPI's or SLA's or Five 9's?

No way there will be an issue, maybe for people with sucky internet connections, but not major companies with extensive clauses and peering arrangements that would make your average n00b's head explode.

Worry about something important, like the threat of Nuclear Holocaust.

Lol, I wouldn't be worried for a second, London is one of the best connected cities on the planet or did you think the finance world used dialup?

Oh and UK broadband is pretty decent.

I'm pretty sure the server is connected directly to a backbone, so bandwidth isn't an issue once it gets out of the server itself.
