Taking a break from Eve. How do I prepare?

I'm taking a break from Eve for a while but I plan on coming back when/if the spirit moves me again.

My question: Where's a good place to park my ISK while I'm gone? Buy a bunch of PLEX or just hang on to my assets? Probably have about 50 bil in ships 'n' stuff scattered about.

Contract it all to me. I'll invest it and pay you back double.

Liquidate it then find a good investment in the Market Discussion forum that is going to pay monthly interest over the period of the loan.

Make some passive ISK for the first few months you are away.

There really is no demand to go in to storage mode now. You can log in as an Alpha clone at any time and evaluate the trends of your assets.

Don't do what I did and give away everything you own, and all your money. Just log off, and take a break. That's it. You don't need to do anything else.

Make sure to move out any assets you have in 0.0 before you quit.

Well I had a bunch of plex before I left, I'd bought it for 600mil then.

Depends on your risk appetite. Leaving it as isk is probably a risk, but with 50bn you can probably afford to lose a bit...

For safety (i.e. a reasonable expectation that asset will track inflation) I'd suggest basic minerals (trit/pye) and/or large (non capital) T1 ships with well defined roles that are less likely to get hit with a Fozzie nerf-bat.

PLEX are about as good an inflation proof investment as you can hope for, with the additional bonus that you can always use them yourself if you wish.

Nothing depreciates faster than isk.
Turn it into plex.

Here's what i would do.

All the stuff you're likely to use - leave as is.

Stuff you're unlikely to use - cash it either by contracting, reprocessing or just selling on the market. Faction ships are a bit slippery - their value can go down fast with a balancing pass (like it was with Rattlesnake and Vindicator) so I'd consider selling them also.

Isk - use it all to buy PLEX. Than use it to pay for the game and set a long skill queue with skills You're likely to use when You come back, but never had patience to train. Isk itself is not a good investment and if You managed to gather 50bn You won't have a problem earning more when You come back.

The Market Discussions subforum has investment options, look at posting histories to filter out the good from the bad.

I was in the same situation when I left the game.

I just came back (to check the status of the game) after a longish break. When I left I was somewhat worried with inflation and decided to store most of my isk in assets.

I think I lost roughly 30-40 Bn that way, maybe more. I was lucky that some speculative items increased a lot (10,000% profit ftw Big smile), else I would face losses much bigger. Would have been better and easier to just keep the liquid isk.

You might want to invest some isk in PLEX, although it's not really the right time of the year to buy. Other than that, I would suggest to leave as you are. If you prefer to gamble on future changes, though, I would focus on stuff that's easy to sell, for example minerals.

You can give stuff to me, I will sell it and buy PLEX that I will use to add time to my account.

Assets keep their value -- ISK doesn't.

Don't keep assets in Citadels tho.

Good luck!
