Linux Launcher starts/updates but EvE client wont.

Some people over in the main thread are sharing similar stories about the launcher working but a client doesn't open. someone suggested posting in the main forum and I thought that would be a good idea as maybe we could keep this one problem consolidated.

a copy of my previous post:

I had this working on a previous installation of ubuntu 14.04, twice, but I can't seem to get it working now on a fresh install of ubuntu 16.04 with unity. the launcher installs fine, opens, and updates. But I can't launch a client.

terminal output when running the launcher:

i do have steam installed, but eve ins't part of my steam. I am sure it's simple but i don't know how ti fix it.


edit: I tried to do some trouble shooting with the eve launcher logging, and it seems like the biggest problem is that it can't find libpng12.so.0 , even though apt says I already have it installed and updated.

I've had this error 2 or 3 times now, but most of the time the client starts without problem.

What I'd like to add is that I have the same terminal output, so I dont think these warnings have anything to do with it.

In short, there's nothing useful in the regular console output, you need to peek into loglite to actually see the relevant stuff.

Well, dunno about libpng12 (i have separate libpng and libpng12 installed, both regular and lib32) but libldap seems to be missing too, and it's a common reason for the client not to work. Probably need libldap and/or it's 32bit version.

I had the same problem on ArchLinux. (Same error message as listed above) Installing 
lib32-libldap
fixed the problem. A game window appeared \o/

Had the same problem with my elementary OS Loki (ubuntu 16.04 derivative). Got around installing all the dependencies for the default wine package.

If it's a fresh install, remember to set the graphics properly. Wine doesn't do DXD11.
