The New Ship / The Old Ship

Over the years playing this game, we've seen many buffs and nerfs to various ships.

A thought just came to me... What if ships had model years like automobiles?

Probably a little late for this feature idea considering all of the changes that have been made over the years. Picture BPO's and ships relevant to the time period they existed, and like any other vehicle, the availability of the BPO stopped when the new model was introduced.

Players have BPO's so production doesn't stop for a particular model, but the availability of the BPO for that ship ceases when a new model (nerfed/buffed) is introduced to the market. Making older models still available in-game and widening the need for knowledge of tactical necessity. Also raising the value of older BPO's and making them collectible.

tl;dr - Game play would be a lot more entertaining if old ship models still existed along with the "new" models.

That might cause some problems, since sometimes a ship is unbalanced to the point of either being overpowered or being completely worthless.

Drones bonuses were changed because of lag (1 more drone per skill to 10% more HP, damage). They cant bring it back, unfortunately

Then any changes that were made to a ship due to lagging issues would need to be a "discontinued item" making their BPO's unable to produce but still exist as collectors items.

Yikes, those old, pre-nerf Dramiels would be worth a few billion ISK now, if this system came to be.

Eve UI wouldn't suck if CCP allowed UI addons.

While interesting, to be entirely honest these 'old' ships would offer absolutely nothing over new ones because the almost universal trend would be for the old ships to be horribifuckus compared to new ones.

How old are we talking about anyways? If the 'PvP king' Ravens came back that might be interesting, but I think it was mostly torps not being a horrible, concentrated cluster of awful that contributed to that. I wasn't here back then so don't take anything I say as fact.

While there are ships that were stronger in the past, and they would add to combat strategy, I'm thinking this would be more beneficial to the market.
