Flight time absolutely kills the mining drone idea, the rates have increased but I'm sure in reality I can out mine in a venture..

Make them sentries and give them a set range.

Thanks

Or you could use a drone navigation computer or fly closer to the rock in question.

So many choices.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

I was using 4 and sitting 5k from the roid. I could get closer and have them sit on my hull and act like lasers, bit like a 0 range sentry with the added feature of getting stuck on the roid trying to warp..

Porpoise and Orca are not, NOT, in my opinion, supposed to be a mining drone primary boat. They both give a bit of extra ore while boosting the surrounding ships. If you had an idea that you were going to get rich mining with an Orca or Porpoise, then you're not thinking about the proper use of the ship.

Rorqual is the mining platform. Orca and Porpoise just give a small bit extra on top of boosts. The Orca will never mine as much as an Exhumer no matter what your skills, and a Porpoise will never mine as much as a barge.

I've been using mining drones for a while with great success - just position your ship within 100m of the rock you have assigned the drones to and the travel time issue goes away.

Have to be real careful amount hanging your ship on the rock. Make sure you align to something that is not in the path of the object being mined.

When I was mining i always used Mining drones with my Exhumer, Stuck the Drones on the rock i was sitting on and lasers on the far off rocks. With an Orca you could just start at one end of a belt and chew through it, that way there would never be rocks behind you and your way out would be clear (start on the end that is closer to your station/POS/Citadel).

You can't have your cake and eat it. If an Orca had Sentry Miners with a similar range to mining lasers the an Orca would outclass Exhumers in almost every way. (more tank, same mining but with no crystals to worry about, more Ore hold, extra normal storage, more offense and they can even warp in 7 secs with an AB)
