Anyone, who thinks, that alphas will be new players is not the smartiest person in the world. Without massisve (and I mean really MASSIVE ) advertising company in mass media no really new players will come. Most alphas in the game will be alts of experienced players, IMHO.

Good if so. Really. Cause I noticed only few banners in youtube side panel (apparently because I do play or follow the EVE tutorials) and couple of articles some time ago. I think that current clone change is the maximum what can be done to get absolutely new people into eve universe. So I would expect CCP to really use that to propagate the game heavely. Now or never.

I dont get why CCP is not advertising more.

All I see is the occasional flash banner that I probably only see because I am allready playing EvE.

CCP should put the new EvE Trailer as Youtube adds bevore Videos and even considder playing a short trailer in mainstream TV.

Does anyone watch TV anymore? The revenues for TV advertising have been falling for the last decade.

The CSM gets in the way of CCP communicating properly with the players of this game.

After all we are not just players, we are customers.

Time for the CSM to be disbanded.

the market for pc games like this are so narrow that tv marketing is pointless, pcgamers tend to not bother with tv, console gaming yes because the market is soo large that it works for aaa titles

We are the living advertisers, if all of us tell our friends and they tell theirs, you've got informed tens of thousands of people. I've already told everyone I know and I expect some of them to try it out.

My 60-year-old mother saw an EVE commercial while watching online tv. So there is not-insignificant advertising going on. Not "MASSIVE", but it's something. And in any case, the real source of new players will be existing players finally being able to convince friends to play who were put off by the subscription-only model.

The cost of eve has never been what drives new players from Eve and hopefully CCP knows this. It's the standard stuff, the steep learning curve and complexity. Being "free to play" is not going to erase spreadsheets in space or the infamous eve cliff of learning for new players.

This isn't true. I personally have 4 or 5 friends who don't like to pay monthly for games because they play a lot of different games. They have all noticed EvE going F2P and all plan to try it out. I'd be surprised if this situation is miraculously only happening in my neck of the woods.

It's interesting how you suddenly know everyone who DOESN'T PLAY EVE well enough to tell us why they never picked it up...

Roll

EDIT : Oh and all the THOUSANDS of people who want to play EvE but can't afford it due to geological constraints are coming to play too. You know the ones who are always on the NPQA asking how to make a PLEX in the 2 week trial..
