Although not a new player, I would love to try this out. From reading the patch notes it seems (after ascension drops) that the only way is through a new account? Or would a new character on an existing account also work?

I know it is possible to try it out on Singularity, but it has been down I think (or at least I have not been able to access it.) Probably CCP is using it to burn in the new patch.

On SiSi, everyone gets it, so I can't say whether it will be limited to just new accounts. However, firing up a new account shouldn't be much of a problem (especially after Ascension), and you'll get a much more authentic experience with a new low SP Character anyway.

Do you get any usefull stuff during the NPE? Like an attribute booster?

I was able to get onto Sisi with a new character (Testy McTesterBoat) and run through the NPE. I think it is actually quite fun and should work well for new players. But new players will be the real judge... . I like how it gives you a taste of some different parts of New Eden, including seeing a citadel and a variety of ship types, even a (sorta) fleet action. Also gives you a good intro to the basic skills. Not sure why d-scan was left out of that, maybe it is covered by one of the career agents but I don't remember.
Worth doing (it doesn't take long) just so you know what your newbro's will have been seen when they start asking questions :)
