"The Noctis is the last word in salvaging, and is a considerable upgrade over a salvage fitted destroyer." Strange that the Noctis is the 'last word' when there isn't really a first word, is there? Anyway, short of le olde salvager Thrasher, it always sort of bothered me that the Noctis was the one and only Salvaging ship. It's slow, cumbersome, and quite literally only serves the purpose of bulk salvaging mission sites and not much else. EDIT: And there's a total lack in progression up to the thing.

Sort of just pitching this out there as an idea that crossed me. It's not well thought out so take it as a grain of salt. Salvager frigate designed for more nimble, quick operations (not ninja salvaging.... well, maybe, if you wanna do that, I guess). Four turret slots (can run four salvagers or two salvagers and two tractor beams if you're super edgy) with just enough defenses for you to realize the error of your ways for being shot at in the first place.

Skill ideas:

ORE Salvager Frigate: I dunno, call it a Platypus or something.
Salvaging Frigate Bonuses (per skill level)
+5% reduction to Salvager Duration
+5% cargo capacity

Skill requirements should be no more than Spaceship Command 1 and Salvaging Frigates 1. Let's keep it simple.

Anyway, just an idea for the new guys to sink their teeth into salvaging and see if they like it instead of sinking 15h+ of training time and 75m+ ISK on a ship they'll only be able to really use when they start doing level 4 missions.

And, since someone is inevitably going to bring it up, yeah, I guess you could do a T2 Salvaging Frigate with a cloaking device or something.

I mean yeah I could use a Destroyer as an Industrial Ship and cart things around, too, but that's not exactly what it's built for and training into it certainly won't help me get into industrial ships, heh.

What you're looking for is a t1 exploration frigate. Heron, probe, etc.

Figured that might be the case.

Enjoy, and fly smart. Big smile

I'd give it a range bonus to salvagers and tractor beams. Obvisiously, we don't want to over load it with high slots or else we'd have another Noctis. A reduction to duration is good and maybe consider a increase to the chance of success.

Why does a ship that can already close on cans faster than a mwd noctis approaching a tractored can need a range bonus? What's wrong with needing to maneuver your ship around?
