Will the porpoise make hulk mining fleets viable again in hisec

I was looking over the stats of the porpoise and noticed it has like a 400% shield boost rate.

Although I think that was intended for ventures mining in low sec, it dawned on me that kind of boost may make hulks viable again.

I mean most people I see just can in fleet to move stuff around to their freighters so the cargo space isn't really a big issue.

So even with a 400% shield boostcould you still gank a hulk with three or less cats?

Is the porpoise a hi sec buff in disguise?

Give me 100 million ISK and I'll put in the effort to load a Hulk into EFT, multiply its EHP by 400%, then load a catalyst into EFT, multiply its DPS by 3x, and then look up the Concord response times for high-sec, and compare.

The math isn't hard, it's just elementary algebra, but I'm just SO LAZY, so I won't do it unless I get paid.

the porpoise and orca-buff are both a boon to -smart- hs miners

Ok I'm reading that wrong. It still can give either 21% resist or 21% more shields and or armor as well.

At max skills.

So with two modules you could increase fleet armor and shield health a 42%.

Ok, so 500 million, because the math is more complicated if I have to multiply by 21 or 22 instead of 400 (which is a much easier number to work with).

How would you increase a cats dps by 3x if those fits flying now are at max dps?

Put faction weapons on?

No, EFT shows me the DPS of 1 cat, but you said your Hulk would be ganked by 3 cats, so I have to multiply the EFT numbers by 3x.

Ok another thing I noticed...

Orca now has battleship DPS, expanded ore hold, and the ability to mine at exhumed levels.

Also it can mine ice and has an increased EHP of 18350 for a total of 82k base EPH.

It also has shield defense bonsus to fleet to anti ganking.

Really why hasn't any one noticed this sooner. It's a buff across the board for hi sect mining.

People have noticed, they just don't care. Most people don't care for mining. So, you can gather more ore, big whop.

Rorqual has also seen huge improvements to yield, so everyone is excited that they can apply hundreds and hundreds of Rorquals to the rich rich ores in 0.0 space, and bring in so many freighters full of ore to Jita that the ore will drown the puny amounts you're bringing in with your Porpoise and even Orca.

So, yeah. Mineral prices crash, next week. Enjoy mining with your Orca for 50 isk profit.

You know, you can already boost Hulk shield HP today. No need to wait for Ascension.

In fact, if you do it today you don't even have to be on-grid, so one might say this is actually a nerf to Hulk mining fleets.

Also, given your Orca can give invulnerable mining boosts today from a POS, you might say it is also a nerf to put them on-grid even with an EHP boost.

You actually get it to ~500k if fitted correctly, but while the boots where there before and invicible, you can now clearly see them and you can bump the orca or the target out of range.

Have you locked something small, like a frigate or destroyer in an orca? Ever? An NPC frigate takes 25s approx and the porpoise has a lock time still in the double digits as well. And you are worried about boosting?

Remember drones need an active target to mine with, are slow as crap too. So let us say you are using the high slots for boosting modules AND some shield reppers you have roids locked and one or two of your guys still. Remember max orca lock is 5 targets!! Because if you do NOT have them prelocked your lock time on a barge is around the 10s mark. Good luck repping something thats already dead.... but hey you can rep it from far away.Roll

So any defense DPS for the drone buff is going to have to wait for the drones to come back, then for you to relaunch the new ones, then to lock the catalyst in question(see above) and then wait for the drones to MWD over, and THEN start applying dps..... oh wait youre already dead?!? So sorry....Twisted


Oh and now gankers will have more targets, PvE targets at that, in high sec belts as well. I mean why not hone your skills on the NPCs while you troll through high sec belts? Oh and then those new NPCs will actually deplete the belts too... Which means you will mine less... and less.... and less....Twisted


That being said. Its still gonna be better for smart players than the dumb cannon fodder ones. In that aspect, like the elections in the US yesterday....nothings really changed.Twisted
