Hey folks, we've got a quick post for you today about a Citadel tweak coming in Ascension.

Some of the early versions of the structure plan before the Citadel expansion release included a significantly larger number of service modules than we ended up settling on. Originally corporation offices were planned to be a service module (we ended up making them a core structure feature), as was the ore compression ability (which was eventually rolled into the Reprocessing plant instead). Back then the outlines for engineering service modules also included greater variety of specialized services, including separate service modules for ME and TE research.

The service module slot numbers included in the original release of Citadels were designed with that larger number of service modules in mind. As we have progressively merged service modules together and reduced the numbers in the plan it has become clear that the citadels have excessive numbers of service slots for the new vision.

We're taking the opportunity in Ascension before we introduce new service modules beyond the first three to adjust the Citadels to match this new version of the plan. So in Ascension the number of service module slots on all citadels (other than the Upwell Palatine Keepstar) will be reduced. This will not cause any existing structures to lost functionality since nobody could have more than three service modules installed pre-Ascension.

The new values are:
  • Astrahus: 3 (-2)
  • Fortizar: 5 (-2)
  • Keepstar: 7 (-1)
  • Palatine Keepstar: 8 (unchanged)

Thanks for the update. Good job in nipping this one in the bud before people felt entitled to more service slots.

And more selfishly, this should depress the second-hand Astrahus market just that little bit more. Gracias!

Given the price of the Fortizar and Keepstar, I don't see how a nerf is warranted.

Fair enough for the Astrahus I suppose, even though the prohibitive fuel costs of massive services usage are already conflicting quite strongly with the idea that somehow, groups only able to afford an Astrahus would spend nearly a bil worth of fuel every month.

Eh? Question

There are only 3 Service Modules available just now: Reprocessing; Clone Bay; Market (the larger two only)

Well shucks... but I can understand the reasoning behind reducing the number of slots given the original concept involving more modules.

Thanks for the heads up.

Ay thanks for the heads up, kinda sucks for the Astrahus owners though. Seems to be growing more redundant with each structure announcement.

Very good call. There wouldn't be a lot of incentive to drop some of the other structures coming, if you could simply pack everything you needed in 1-2 astrahouses.

I envisioned a Fortizar with clone bay, market, reprocessing, manufacturing, research, and invention services as a fuel guzzling, inefficient, do-it-all structure - an alternative to an NPC research station. Oh well, time to re-think that idea...

I do have to say one thing.
While I understand the need to nerf the amount of service modules on the Citadels to make owning several structures a must.
I kinda fail to understand why all the structures have to be over 1000 km away from eachother.
Sure I get that grouping 10 astrahuses together would be OP as FACK but being able to group up like 3 structures togheter
shouldent be a huge problem.
The thing with the EC is that their defences are ABYSSMAL when you compare them to the Citadels.
And then I start to dread how weak the drilling platform structures will be.
Will they be even weaker than the EC? That is honestly scaring me to think about.
Trust me when I say that I love that the old POS system is geting replaced(its broken and hellish to deal with puting up and taking down POSes all the time)
Thing is we went from having something that was immensly broken and complex to deal with(deathstar/jerkstars are not something to laugh att) to something that is... Weak as fack but a lot less complex?
Im going to "try" to take care of multiple structures. Like CCP plans and want us to do.
But If my structures ends up geting ganked into oblivion all the damn time cause of how weak it is im gonna have to just skip using it all together cause I simply cant afford replacing the structures every week/month

What I personaly would like (and I think quite a fev more would like to) is the ability to group up medium structures in groups of 3.
they should also not be able to be the same structures (no 3 astrahuses for insane defence) But be able to group up an Astrahus with a Raitaru and a future medium drilling platform for a small space city and having some I guess accualy decent defence?

Now I dont really know how broken this would be.
Im not a game designer.
If it isent possible cause of design reasons or it would be " way to OP" then im gonna accept it.
Again I will try to own the structures. but if it just becomes impossible to maintain the structures then im gonna have to just forget using them.
Even tough that saddens me greatly.

(PS. It took me a long time to write down my thougts here so if so im some sentenses seem wierd sry.)

Less reasons to anchor citadels. Engineering complex can do everything that citadels can do, even better. And they're much cheaper.

speaking of ore compression can we get this taxed already

Taxed AND controlled by a separate access list (from reprocessing).

Are you going to change the fitting capacity on the citadels as well because with so few services available actually ever needing these grid and cpu modules doesn't seem too likely ...

Can anybody post the block fuel requirement for the Standup Service Plant and Research ME?

Eve Info has not updated the Structure Service modules yet unfort.

Standup Manufacturing Plant I, Standup Research Lab I, and Standup Invention Lab I each cost 864 blocks to online and 12 blocks per hour to run (9 blocks if installed in an Engineering Complex).

Is there an onlining time or something for the standup manufacturing plant before it can be used? I have installed the module into the citadel. The initial fuel blocks were removed from the fuel bay, and the ship fitting screen for the citadel shows the module as online. However, when I try to start a job, I am told that I cannot do so. The icon under our corp logo (while docked) shows the manufacturing plant as disabled.

Since EC is a disaster (due to lack of defense), CCP decided to nerf astrahuses, to prevent solo players or small corps from having reprocessing and all production modules in one structure. That sucks, but what sucks more is the lame excuse they posted here... Before that nerf, Astrahus could let you have cloning bay, reprocessing array and all industry stuff. Now I have to choose, what industry service module I have to skip cause I can go without cloning bay but hardly without reprocessing.
-1 for the change. Make them at least 4, not 3 slots for Astrahus...
