That is the million dollar question. These are going to be big game changing implementations, and I am sure CCP are being very cautious about it. So far no details have been released that ia am aware of, but I am pretty sure there is going to be a dev blog on this. My feeling is its pretty imminent.

Probably be a thing where you must hold SOV in order to anchor a structure similar to a moble depot.

Are mobile siphon units still a thing? The opinions on them that I've read seemed to be few and divided.

There will be new structures called drilling platforms and we have been told that CCP intends moon mining to require active gameplay. Most of that came out during the structure presentation and roundtable at Fanfest.

At Vegas we were told that they will be slowing the introduction of new structures to give time to iterate on the existing structures. That probably means a stay of execution for POS.

EDIT: Also see the dev blog Back Into the Structure for the original drilling platform concept. Note that current reprocessing service modules are drilling platform modules, so receive no role bonus from citadels nor engineering complexes.

Probably not, as that would kill moon mining in LowSec.

Instead of a structure, why not move Moon Mining to become a Ship Mining capability for say Orca sized ship and above.

A T2 Orca and T2 Rorqal could be developed as specialist moon miners that have: Increased yields (over T1 versions); Increased Resource Hold capacity vs Reduced Ship Hold and Fleet Hangars; Ship Maintenance and Drone Bays swapped for a small Fighter/Drone bay for defence.

New (Specialist) strip mining modules specific to moon mining and specific to the resource being sort.

This would remove any SOV issues related to anchoring requirements. It could also offer an easy pathway to enable CCP to open up Moon Mining in Wormholes and very limited moon mining in Hisec should they wish to do so.

Yes, I’m aware that it will cause Corporations and Alliances to have to re-create the way that they fund activities they traditionally fund with moon mining. That is probably not such a bad thing.

CCP would have to look at yields, but that is what they get paid for . . .

I don't think I would want to be the pilot of a moon mining Orca - regular rock mining sounds downright exciting by comparison! I think a hybrid system might work where you have surface infrastructure that harvests the resource and needs about the same level of maintenance as PI. A specialized ship that collects the resource and does first level processing and compression and a structure - drilling array that holds the reaction farm.

Or, make it another T2 venture. One specialized for harvesting moon goo. That would make it "require active gameplay". Although if Orca sized ships were needed, then it would become group activity like the NPC mining (because you'd need to have a fleet to keep it alive).
