Replace defender missiles with close-in weapon system

So, like Defender missiles as a form of longer range targeted smartbombs.

I kinda like that. Require the defender launcher to have a lock on target, activate module, and have it work as a shittier long range smartbomb sort of. Only its not AOE, but in stead can only defend one target at a time.

The main problem with defenders is i think volume of fire is insufficient to counter volume of incoming. If it were a targeted support module it would make sense as a utility high for fleet fights. It would also be a solid module for drone ships that aren't using sentries to try and increase the EHP of their drones in stead of fitting more DPS or whatever.

However, if you're going to do all that jazz, we need to make them work on drones, and we need defender modules for every weapon type that count as launcher hardpoints. Defender laser array, defender gauss array, etc. Basically think of these as launcher sized "box" style modules with lots of low yield lasers/rails set up kinda like a launcher, the idea being its a low yield saturation fire device primarily used to shoot at small fast targets like missiles and drones.

i'm not sure how i feel about it it seems it will just force groups to have larger bomber wings taking away another tool for little guys to punch up

Defender missiles should just be removed. They've never worked well, the only place they 'work' is on NPC's in missions to mess with missile users.


the problem with defenders is they only work if you have range, NPC just cheat with them as they can take half your missiles out when your ship is directly against their hull and the defenders still take out your missiles
