What are some efficient ratting ships that arent drone boats?

Newb here! :D

I seem to find lots of ratting posts leaning to using VNI, Ishtar, & Gila. I actually have alright drone skills and have used the VNI and it does work really well. Except when your drones get targeted and you have to play recall/release/repeat or lose them. Anyways I'd like to try something new because I find them boring and want to explore other ways of doing it. It would be preferable to have something that I can lock targets and blow them up myself. If it's even faster than the drone boats if I apply my attention to the task then that would be amazing! I welcome and appreciate any fit suggestions.

Thanks for asking such a very specific question.

Now here is mine. What is your definition of "efficient" ?

One thing - if you let the drones auto-target in a ratting pocket, they will less likely be targeted.

I would suggest Hurricanes or Harbingers for starters.

depending on what your region's rats are, there's several options. Gurista rats jam, so drone boats are actually the more viable choice.

however, if you want a more 'active' ratting experience, most T1 battleships can do anomalies so long as you tank them correctly for the faction you're fighting.

Marauders can certainly do the job, as can pirate faction battleships.

Same as this one, "Achieving maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort or expense." Drone boats could be the best in that regards. I'm still a newb so I really don't know. What I do know is I want more activity out of what I'm doing to earn isk and preferably speed it up if possible. If not i'll accept the drone boats are the meta for this right now and that's all there is to it, but if there is an option that clears sites faster while engaging me more I'd much prefer that.

I'll do some research on these two ship and see if they would suit my interests. Thanks for the tips on the drones too!

Depending on the lvl of rats your going after I would suggest a nice missile boat;

1. Auto targeting missiles keep you killing even if you get jammed.

2. For low level rats letting missiles fly makes scooping them easy.

3. A drake for your larger level rats.

4. If your so inclined, a Moa, a 250mm rail fit and you will snipe rats to pieces, and you still have the option of using drones if you don't pop 1 or 2 before they get under your tracking, the Moa is a strong cruiser, I've been doing bloodraiders gauntlet with it.

One thing about the Moa it is best to snipe (imo), and use it's speed and low Sig to kite and orbit while using an afterburner to do this, iron ammo for range and antimatter for closer engagements with BS, BC, CR, it rips them up pretty good, I've also done lvl 3 missions in it (although some lvl 3's it's not best).

So you are one of those. A Raven is a good all-round battleship for all empires and regions. If you worry about ammo at some point, I would go with a laser boat.
Tech one laser crystals from everywhere in asteroid belts or missions and they don't crack.

A faction laser crystal (ammo with a dark-green tag) will last 6000 laser-turret cycles and a tech 2 crystal will last 4000 laser-turret cycles until you hear a shattered window sound and your laser turrets don't shoot anymore.

And you can always ask your 3000 alliance buddies (or 400 buddies with 120346184615697562541685490572 accounts).

My first L4 mission boat was an arty fleet pest. You can kill multiple rats with one volley, so effort required and ammo cost are pretty minimal. Cycle time is only slightly better than a strip miner though.

Talos son. always was king and still is fantastic. anything that can hit you from far out, you sig/speed tank. anything under a BC you alpha, BCs are gone in 2-3 volleys, BSs cant hit you for the most part. \

you can go t2 rails but i dont have the skills yet. you're cap stable unless you run your guns for 30 min straight, throwing out 745dps with standard AM, 40+36, 589m/s, large cargo hold. game on son.

I run lvl 4s with this thing and its quicker than most BSs. you have cruiser mobility and BS kick in the @$$... hard to knock it.
you can also absolutely melt face with t2 blasters/null but you risk getting too close and getting hit with spider drones and being webbed is bad news if youre close.

Thanks everyone for helping a newb out! I'll check out the types of ships/fits referenced here and see what fits best for my training schedule and cost.

Attack battlecruisers or pirate BS...basically maximum bang you can manage from the hull size is best.

but what would I know, I'm just a salvager

Faction crystals last for approx. 4000 rounds, not 6000. T2 last for exactly 1000 rounds, not 4000.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

Legion with beam lasers works well most time, but you might want to swap for a heavier boat for some heavy missions like the blockade you really want a micro jump drive fit battleship imo. Big smile

lasers with t1 crystals. efficient as no ammo

artillery guns. efficient as massive alpha for little ammo (so don't need to carry as much)

and (if you feel like saying "SCREW YOU CONCORD I DO WHAT I WANT" ) then smart bombs.

The top ratting boats i would argue would be Marauders, Mach, and Nightmare (not drone boats) and the Rattlesnake ( drones and missiles).

for smaller ships... T3 cruisers... Teir three BC's...

No Worries
