I am not knowledgeable about Caldari etiquette in this matter, but I am nosy, so I'll ask anyway — was this a natural birth or one of those weird Caldari Tube births?

My son takes after his mother in that he was naturally conceived and carried to term whereas I was artificially batched and tube born. Amazingly the experience has done nothing to convince Des to go with the tube option next time. Glutton for punishment that she is.

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.

Is that how it works? Now it makes sense why my mom kept telling me that the lawyers would come take me away when I misbehaved...

My sincerest congratulations for bringing a new citizen into the world. I'm sure Kaalakiota is better off because of it.

(Shame it couldn't be an Ishukone citizen, heheh.)

Congratulations to your wife and yourself on this happy occasion.

Thank you for the clarification on the 'choice' announced. I was somewhat confused as to how a newborn might make such a decision, but it turns out that it's exactly the same as anyone else's choice of heritage.

There's no need for sleepless nights. Nannies and au pairs of impeccable quality are widely available to someone with a capsuleer wallet. A people comfortable with creating children in a tube is surely pragmatic enough to employ professional child-rearing personnel.

Humanity has won its battle. Liberty now has a country.

Congratulations, Tuulinen-haan... but, excuse me, how old is he? You said his choice?

Many of his future choices over the next decade are going to be at our discretion, Kim-haani. :)

He's about a week old so, no, he didn't actually make the decision himself, but he will (of course) make the decision as to whether to accept or deny his full citizenship when the time comes. For the time being we made the decision on his behalf.

Sometimes... you scare me, Tuulinen-haan.

Forget nannies. If you want to do something right, you do it yourself. Especially when it comes to children.

That's basic parenting. Most major decisions are made by the parents until the child comes of age. Much the same as a recruits decisions are made by their Commanding officer.

I, for one, am greatly surprised, that the choice of citizenship was not left to the child concerned, perhaps in the form of a toy or other object, the act of reaching for one or the other determining the choice of citizenship.

With friends and family allowed to wager large sums of money on said choice. The proceeds of which gambling would go into an investment fund that Hayato would gain access to upon adulthood.

Yes, but commanding officers don't claim that recruits did these decisions, it is still commanding officer decisions, both them and recruits know this. Well, maybe it is in their corporate tradition, I can't say anything about it...
... rather that it sounded scary for me. And trust me, it is quite hard to scare or surprise me.

It's a traditional parenting thing. In fact, it's generally accepted that children take the corporate affiliation of their parents, but the tradition is that all corporate affiliation is voluntary.

Legally I am empowered to make decisions for my child.

On this happy occasion I am afraid that in addition to the typical congratulations I must also offer commiserations. Such large shoes to fill; what great acts to follow.

Do well, Citizen.
