It was suggested by our CEO (and agreed with by others) on the day of Operation Morning Glory that the Hive connection may have been a deliberate retaliation on the part of the Drifters in response to the construction of the facility two days prior. Three additional wormhole connections to Drifter Hives - two of them simultaneously - occurred in the first week of the facility's operation, for a grand total of four connections. This further lends credence to the theory, but it is not sufficient evidence to rule out pure coincidence.

Did the Drifters actually siege the cittadel? If yes, then it was retaliation. If no, well, random occurances are random.

A siege is not necessary for it to be considered retaliation. They certainly do not care for its presence, or the vessels traveling back and forth, and have engaged the latter in combat multiple times, resulting in a few losses of neutral capsuleer assets as well as a few of our own vessels that were deliberately used for testing with minimal crew complement. Things seem to be in a phallus-measuring contest phase, given they seem reluctant or unable to do much about it for now, but are happily providing a large show of force every few days.

The appearance of randomness is not sufficient evidence on its own that something is random, however. As we are neither Drifters ourselves, nor in control over whatever mechanism they are using to open wormhole connections to specific systems, there is really no way to say for certain whether it is random or not.

That is one of many things we are looking to investigate through careful study, of course.

Pardon, but by random occurences I meant the reason why Drifters appear here or there. They follow their own logic and have certainly shown in the past that perceived threats will be engaged with extreme prejudice. The same way Jamyl got whacked. Still, I'd go as far to say that if there hasn't been direct confrontation with an asset, then their appearance within the system is wholly unrelated to it. Apart from shooting capsuleers, which if I might add, started shooting first, they're just going on with their regular agenda. Whatever it is. Hence random, as in we have no effect on it.

As for the mechanism, our own jump drives systems are just a step away from being able to replicate the wormhole effect. Mechanically, the wormholes they use are different than jumping to a cyno. Practically, the drives only lack the needed capacitor power to just rip space open in a similar manner, and arrive at a destination, sans cyno. It's a simple matter of devising more efficient capacitor storage for the capital ships, the rest is simple triangulation. Drifter wormholes are going to be weaponised, of sorts, before long.
