Hi Folks

Trying to fathom the wildly out of proportion requirements of Strontium Clathrates for Fuel Block production, I believe this was addressed when they were first introduced as a material requirement, this I understand no problem, it's part of the Glacial Mass reprocessed materials, apart from their use in Reinforcement for POS towers, they are essential a waste product.

BUT ....why is the proportion of the yield from Glacial Mass (1 only per Ice block) to the Fuel requirement of 18!! (per 40)

Just for reference (for 40 Hydrogen Fuel blocks, ME10/TE20 BPO)

151 Heavy Water 2.2 Blocks Ice Required
151 Liquid Ozone 4.3 Blocks Ice Required
18 Strontium Clathrates ****** 18 Blocks Required !!!!!! Sad *******
400 Hydrogen Isotopes 0.96 Blocks Ice Required

Either the yield from Glacial Mass needs to be greatly increased or the requirements for Fuel needs to be dropped dramatically.

There's no reason for it to be so high, and with the new Engineering Complexes coming and the Service Modules thirst for Fuel, its going to be extremely hard, if not impossible to keep up....as most Industrialists know Ice Mining can be as boring as bat ****..but a necessary evil....
I fear it will be the end of many many small Corps like my own.

Cheers

With the Citadel patch last year they upped the usage of stront severely without creating anymore of it in supply in high sec. Stront was and always has been a null sec produced and used item as null sec ice has a LOT of stront. But it is big and bulky to ship. The price increase and the need to supply it for building have meant the prices have gone through the roof and will stay there until a new equilibrium is reached. If it is not acceptable CCP will change it but IMO its not in an area where it needs to be myself.

Yes I too lament the increased prices but maybe go mine the good stuff somewhere else and supply that market with goodness and make a healthy profit? Its become a much more used commodity and we in New Eden are burning through it more than before.Blink

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

Not all of the ice variants are 1 strontium per block. Glare Crust (IIRC) is 35 strontium per block. But as has been noted that's only found in low/null sec. While this creates an unbalanced market as the multi box mining fleets are not going to chase ice into low null outside of protected sov/null alliance mining I don't necessarily have a problem with it. Gives a reason to train up an.expedition frig, and a monetary incentive for those willing to take the risk.

Up until now, there was little reason to mine in low sec. Now there is (glare crust). Shattered wormholes also provide plenty of high-end ice, and alot of them are only a jump from high sec. I think this is a golden age for solo, high-risk mining.

Rumor has it there's a relatively new ice mining frigate that can be used to mine ice in hostile nullsec

Thanks folks, some ideas to take into consideration...appreciate the response's
