An odd wardec

This is a bit of a puzzle. I was inclined to just ignore it but it has me ccratching my head.

I logged in to one of my trader characters just now and there was a wardec notification. When I looked at it in Mail / Notifications it was a war declaration from one of the big merc corps to another corp that I have no connections with.

There are no connections between the corporation that my trader is in and this other corporation. I looked at the deccing corp and they had issued around 50 or so decs around the same time around 20:00 yesterday, a mix of large corporations and possibly random corps, hard to say.

I thought maybe it's to do with the contact list, but I checked there and the trader just has a large block list (neither the corp or CEO of the decced corp are in there) and I have no other contacts or standings set on the character.

So it's a bit of a mystery to me why I should get a notification.

Well being as you are still around. I logged in around 18:00 to check the details for filing a bug report and there was another notification. Different deccer, same target.

Not devils btw. Just for info. It was Complaints Department vs. Call To Glory

then followed by:

Gate Is Red vs. Call To Glory

so the target corp is the same, and I guess that is something to do with it.

I've got the exact same two wardecs, also no affiliation to any of those corps. Obviously a bug.

It's probably not even a capsuleers fault, they just did the final sign off of paper work that was pushed up the chain(you know from the norms). I mean not many have the patience to actually read and approve all the paper work that's shoved up the corporate ladder, even less so in a merc corp. There's just so many other things a merc should be doing that involves nuclear/antimatter AMMO, that paper work is just small stuff compared to that. When you think about it if someone is routing up paperwork that's important enough to cross a capsuleers desk, it's probably has had a thorough enough review that you can just sign it off and ignore it (After all Antimatter, gravity reactors, and dividing by zero are involved so it's not like any mistakes are likely to be made).

I think that if you contact the capsuleer that did the final sign off of the paperwork, they'll realize a mistake was made, fire a few norms, and then everyone can get on with their immortality.

Concord hired a new guy, he screwed up some paperwork and mails where sent to the wrong people. We have a damage repair team working on it now.

Same here. I noticed I have 1 share in Call To Glory, which is, I assume, why we are getting the notifications. The question is did a load of people get a share due to a bug or did they actually just hand out 1 share to a load of random people in Jita. Is there no notification when you are given shares?

Interesting point. AFAIK I have no shares at all, on my trade character that got the notifications that is (or any other character for that matter).

I have, however, received the notifications that the war(s) are ending.

Perhaps the glitch is in the share system?

If you decide to let him go, I would like to take the job.

Thank you.

Looks like problem solved and not a bug after all. I checked on my trade character and found that they do have 1 share in the corporation that received the war declaration.

As I have never to my knowledge been offered or accepted any shares, I guess that you must be able to send people shares without them knowing it. And given that a number of people received notifications of these wars, perhaps the corporation just gave out shares to random people.

I will update my bug report to say "not a problem". Thanks everyone for your interest.

I wonder, if someone owns a share in a corporation, does the corporation get Intel on them. Like where you could see on the ingame map where your fellow corpmates are located.

So I'm wondering if people who own shares are similarly tracked by the corporation and/or whether they are logged on.

Hmmmmm, good question, I'll have to check as I own shares in my old corp, I don't think this is the case but it's going to be worth checking certainly
