Another question about navigating null sec

Hello again fellow explorers and capsuleers,

My question is, suppose I am warping to a gate in null sec (assume I am not warping directly or what have you) and I am under cloak. Suppose there is a warp bubble behind the gate, that will pull me to it when I arrive. Will I become decloaked when the warp bubble pulls me, or remain cloaked?

Asking for a friend...

If there is just the bubble, you will not decloak. Often the people that set the trap will leave a lot of space junk around the place they expect you to land though, so if you get too close to the junk you will decloak.

Generally if you aren't warping directly from a celestial you will not hit any junk, and will probably miss the drag bubble too. Since drag bubbles are almost always aligned with a celestial.

If you are in a "local" area that you expect to frequent often, it is always worth the time to set up at least one gate perch for each gate. Of course the perch should be as far out of alignment as you can get, and about 1-2k from the gate. Then whenever you are warping around, you can warp to the perch and not have to worry about getting stuck in a bubble ever again. If you warp around uncloaked, then you will want multiple perches.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

So, hypothetically, if I were warping to a gate cloaked, and ended up inside a warp bubble, I would stay cloaked, and no one would be the wiser?

As long as there was nothing within 2km of you, then yes you would remain cloaked. The only times you will decloak is if you come within 2km of another object, you log off, or if you deactivate it yourself.

As long as you are cloaked they would only see you in local (assuming you aren't in wormhole space), but they wouldn't know you were there. However if you jump into a system and there is a bubble on the gate your gate flash will give away the fact that you have jumped in.

I once podded myself by blowing a huge fart.

As above, theoretically you stay cloaked, the bubble effect itself does not de-cloak ships.

In practice, anyone who's figured out how to properly deploy drag bubbles knows EXACTLY where the dragged ships will land, relative to the bubble edge and the gate. That's the point of a drag bubble, it pulls the prey to a very specific point in space. The pirates will be positioned to focus fire on the particular spot where you land, and only a moron would forget to put some drones or cargo containers or even actual ships at that particular spot, so that any cloaked ship is de-cloaked on arrival because of proximity. I mean, it's just common sense.

So, in practice, you won't stay cloaked.

time spent burning tactical perches on gates is seldom time wasted.

Here's how I do it in a speed fit interceptor:

1: Warp to the gate at 100km, drop a bookmark on the way in at around 1,000km.
2: Warp back to that bookmark.
3: Burn off at ~90 degrees to the line you warped at for at least 500km.
4: Bookmark this new position as your tactical, delete the other bookmark.

A great many people seem to set up their pings at between 150km and 200km directly above gates. Do not be one of these people.

Direct approach is obviously bad.

"Warp to nearest planet (nearest to the destination gate) and then to the gate" is the next, really obvious, approach. PVP'ers have been playing this game for a few years now; they've thought of this, and they'll definitely cover that approach vector with bubbles too.

And then, as Mephiz points out, people are typically OCD and like to have all their "ping" / "perch" / "tactical" bookmarks very neatly above or below the gate, typically at the same distance (150, 200km) for all of their bookmarks. So those are also really obvious approaches that will be covered by bubbles as well.

Biomass decloaks you, and most people never have it on overview.

I thought they changed that a long time ago so corpses won't decloak you anymore. People used to surround gates with clouds of corpses...

IIRC: Active drones no longer decloak you, although abandoned ones will.

Biomass, wrecks, jetcans, ships and NPC ships will all decloak you.
